The perp got a beating before he died? That’s a nice touch by the self-defender.

I'd quibble with the reporter's use of the word "victim's friend" to describe the perp at the 1:25 mark, but otherwise a good outcome.

I'd like to know if that was just good SA + fast reaction and lucky take-away, or if there was some training involved. Can't tell from the video.

Charles C. Branas, PhD did a study and found that armed robbers who carried guns were 4.5 times as likely to be shot and 4.2 times as likely to get killed by their victims who are tired of their shit.**

So, get an education, get a job and stop getting yer ass capped.

Somebody gotta clean that shit up!

Would love to see this sort of outcome more often. My bet, if we did, crime would diminish significantly.

Standing right next to the victim, pointing the gun at him but turning head 180 to look at the door and his accomplice. Go to love stupid criminals and a happy ending.

Looks like we've been misled by some poor news reporting. According to this news report, the ATM guy not only shot the thief after taking away the gun, but the bystander that was shot in the shoulder was his friend.

There is an embedded news video at link.

Emphasis added in bold.

Victim Grabs Gun, Shoots Would-Be Robber and His Own Friend, Police Say

Published March 22, 2022 • Updated on March 22, 2022 at 6:21 pm

Two people were shot, and one person was killed, during an attempted robbery at an ATM inside a corner store in Olney early Tuesday, police said.

As a man tried to get money out of an ATM at Y&H Snacks and Candy at 5th and Delphine streets just after 1 a.m., another man walked into the store and announced a robbery, police said.

Police believe the man at the ATM then took the would-be robber's gun and shot him. However, the man also shot his own friend in the shoulder during the attempted robbery.

Police said they later found the robbery suspect dead in a nearby Toyota, which had been reported stolen just days ago. Police have not identified him, but say he is in his late teens or early 20s.

The friend of the victim of the attempted robbery went to a hospital for treatment.

I'm not sure if, after taking the gun away from the perp, he can legitimately claim reasonable fear of grave bodily harm or death, and stopping the threat, as a defense. Perhaps so.

But apparently one of the rounds he fired, and intended to stop the threat of the perp, instead went through the glass and struck his friend waiting outside, in the shoulder.

At this point in the investigation it's unclear if the round that struck his friend in the shoulder was a through-and-through that traveled through the perp, or if it was an errant miss that hit him.

I’m surprised an ABC affiliate allowed the locals comments about gun violence in the city being out of control. Obviously it’s true, but for a leftist platform to allow people to express the truth? Interesting.

There is no surprise there. They allowed it, because it fits their agenda of blaming the gun and not the criminals. It's always "gun violence". The inanimate object is always to be blamed.

I think the adrenaline factor should be weighed. If I were in his shoes I would still be fearing for my life and not necessarily operating on “rational” thinking one or two seconds after taking the gun. My fear is the press will highlight his innocent friend being shot.

Also the perp may have had a second gun. The victim can shoot until the threat is over, as in the perp gives up.

On the confusion, I read it as the person shot in the shoulder was the friend of the victim. The driver of the get away car is still being sought.
Perp was distracted not by his accomplice, but by the friend of the victim.

I took the news story to mean the victim’s friend was the good guy since they said they were still looking for the perps driver?

It’d be nice if the news just spoke the actual truth so it’s clear.
