I've been a big DeWalt fan for years, have had great luck with their tools, even though I work them hard and often.

About 6 months ago I picked up a 60V compressor kit at Home Depot. Today my battery would not charge, blinks once on the charger then nothing, all others are charging normally.

Took the compressor back to Home Depot with no joy because of no receipt, and they couldn't find it on my account, even though I make sure to purchase all tools on it for the warranty upgrade (didn't look like they tried very hard)

Came Home and called DeWalt, instant joy, the are sending out a replacement immediately, great lady on the phone, I was pleasantly surprised to say the least!!

Glad you got satisfaction.
I dropped using them 20 or so years back.Their batteries sucked big time.
I gave three twelve volt drills and one eighteen volt away.
Still have a 36 volt skill saw I bought years ago with two batteries.
One battery died after about a year and I'll be damned if I will spend two hundred more for a battery. The kit was nearly five bills.
No complaint on their tools, they are strong.
The batteries not so much.

How often did you use the batteries? That was back in the NiCad days and they’ll go bad quickly if they’re not used and recharged regularly.

45 Cal,

Battery technology for tools has come a very long way in the past 20 years. You're missing out.

I had the same issue with DeWalt 14.4 stuff. Batteries were crap and they got used regularly.

All Milwaukee now. NiMH batteries. Have burned up one drill (abused the crap out of that thing...) but haven't had a battery fail yet.

I agree that it's likely battery technology rather than the color of the tool tho.

I have a couple of screw guns from Sears; Craftsman 12v, very compact, nicely balanced, not too heavy, that have seen very extensive use on the shop floor. Just love them. I think they're no longer made, which is a shame. I'd buy more.

DeWalt sells some good tools, but it's customer service that really makes a good reputation.

I agree. I had the same bad battery experiences with the 18 volt NiCad. BUT, I've had a set of dewalt 20V LION tools with 2 batteries and the batteries are still perfect after 2.5 years.

I'm most of the way through changing over my Dewalt 18v NiCad to Dewalt 20v LION and the difference is hugh.

I think that no matter what brand you go with, the lastest battery technology makes all the difference.

Dewalt replaced a few batteries for me in the past, but then the tech went from 14.4 to 18v and the battery form changed. Suddenly the 14.4 batteries were about the same price as the 18v kit...
I gave up and switched to Ryobi as their battery form started the same over the different generations and I've saved quite a bit using the old "blue" tools with the modern batteries.

Not a knock against Dewalt, the tools were built top notch... just me not wanting to play the game.

I shall respect you until you open your mouth, from that point on, you must earn it yourself.

I just bought a Ridgid brand cordless drill-driver at Home Depot. I was looking at all the major brands but what made me decide on the Ridgid was the lifetime warranty on the tool as well as a lifetime warranty on the batteries.
