best of luck to you. My neighbor did the same thing with a pocket chain saw. He threw a rope up high and had a long section to pull on. It started to work ok but then the tree decided it had enough of his shenanigans and closed the saw kerf to permanently bind the saw to the tree. He couldn't move the saw because it was stick.

yanici, did the partially cut section ever come down? There are widow makers and then there's that. Eek

Sounds like a chainsaw is out of the question.

Have you tried 50 rounds of 10mm?

They also make this chainsaw chain on a rope:

If you can find a way to physically get up that high you could pound a felling wedge in behind the saw once you get started to hold the kerf open, then go back down and resume sawing.

"The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people."
"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford, "it is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards."
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

The only way I could get up that high is in a bucket truck or with the aid of a passing helicopter.

Potentially use a climbing tree stand if you think the tree is solid enough to hold the weight.

The come-along posted by 41 is probably the easiest and safest method.

It's been too hot lately and right now, it's raining like all get-out.

Might work well in your favor once it lets up. Should help soften it up a bit for the saw, I’d think.

I'm in no hurry at this point.

I did run the saw up the tree and sawed off a couple of limb stubs to try it out. No getting stuck.

I know this takes the sport out of it, but I'd hire a professional tree climber that saws it down in sections. The branches come off on their way up.
Then deal with the cleanup yourself if cost savings or exercise are desired.
I suspect it would take them less time to do the work than to come out to give an estimate so it shouldn't be all that expensive.

I'm gonna do it myself, or it remains standing.

Is that in your yard?

1. Buy myself a pocket chainsaw. Maybe some rope.
2. Found another fail genre for Youtube videos we can enjoy as a family. Kids will love, "tree falling fails" or maybe "chainsaw fails."
3. Follow up for resolution to this thread.

I dunno, if I put down a blanket and set out some chow, it would all roll down hill.
