Yes.

I was following this last night as well. Terrible that the assassin succeeded. Abe was a staunch anti-communist and a fierce opponent of the CCP and defended his country resolutely. It's hard to imagine that China didn't have anything to do with this.

More proof that gun control laws don't work.

I saw the headline that he had been shot late last night. It was reported he had gone into cardiac arrest at the scene. I went to bed thinking damn I hope through some miracle he is able to make it.

Waking up today and seeing the news is just terrible.


This is certainly proof that gun control keeps firearms out of the hands of law abiding citizens and no one else. Punishing everyone who didn’t do anything wrong when someone does something terrible is a stupid way to govern.

I think some of you are missing the big picture here.

At :39 there is the killer holding the gun. Is the guy behind him security? If so he just let him shoot.

Balzé, I don’t think the readership here isn’t considering the possibility of this being the result of an outside influence (China). But at the same time it is also possible this was the result of a domestic nut job.

Domestic nut job or not, one of the most vocal leaders of freedom in the eastern world was just assassinated, and the first thing we here tend to want to comment on is the obvious and tired gun control spiel. It just gets boring.

In spite of some of their seemingly liberal laws, Japan does have a death penalty and they actually do use it, especially in crimes like this one.
They also tend to do it in a much more timely manner than in the USA.
I know there will be all sorts of speculation of other governments involved, since he was a conservative and strongly against countries like China.
A more likely explanation is that this was one of those nut cases that slipped through the cracks and security wasn't paying close attention since this type of stuff is rare in Japan. We'll have to wait a while to see how this develops and hope it doesn't inspire other crazies.

The whole point of having a pro-active bodyguard is that their job is to REACT to the totally unexpected...

It looks like they got the guy, so I imagine we (or they) will know his backstory soon enough. I doubt his interrogation will be gentle. This is definitely very alarming, especially considering how China has been flexing it's muscles in recent years and trying to expand it's control regionally. It's not at all far fetched to think that they could be behind this.

I dont know what kind of security, if any, they provide to former Prime Minsters. From the above video I did not see one security member with a gun after the shots. I would assume they are armed? Is this not the case in Japan?

That is truly bad news and to me it has China written all over it.

Glad they caught the guy. Hope he spills his guts. Literally and figuratively.

Well, this is a gun forum…
