I think it was just on the NBC national news. I wasn’t really paying attention and just caught a blurb of it.

They are destroyed once the criminal case is complete, if applicable.

It was on some news tonight,
A neighbor called me to ask me,
( Like I would know)

He heard I might be flying and wanted me to be careful.

So as not to get my side arm confiscated.

This is what the TSA says...

quote:

What happens to guns/weapons found in carry-on bags left behind?
All weapons detected in carry-on bags are turned over to local law enforcement authorities.

https://www.tsa.gov/travel/fre...cement%20authorities.

Of course, the question becomes what does local LE do with them?

This is the statute that covers bringing a weapon into the secure side of a terminal.
https://texas.public.law/statu...l_code_section_46.03

TSA finds gun during screening check-in, LEO'S get called to that lane. If the person doesn't fall into one of the exceptions in the statute, the weapon is seized as evidence, person is arrested, booked into jail. Case goes to DA.

Happened to a friend, got a last minute call to get on a plane for a meeting, grabbed a bag, stuffed it with clothes, kit and off to the airport, only problem, he forgot there was a gun in the bag.

Off to jail, court, lots of money spent...
Don't remember if he got his gun back.

Our former Governor was caught with a loaded handgun in a briefcase. Of course we have Madison Cawthorn being caught twice. The Citizen Times reported he is set to appear on Jan. 13 in Mecklenburg County District Court on a charge of carrying a loaded gun while going through airport security.

The confiscated firearms are taken to the BATFE facility in Martinsburg, WV where those that aren’t pilfered are ground to bits in an industrial shredder.

A tiny number of unusual pieces make it into the BATFE firearms reference library.

I’m willing to bet nearly 100% of these guns are left in baggage inadvertently by the lawful owner. Prior to 9-11 security changes, I think you could talk your way out of the bind with a clean record, not anymore.

It kinda falls back to knowing where your CC weapon or firearm is at all times. For me it’s usually best on your person. If it’s set somewhere, only for shorter periods, then back on you or secured.

Atlanta TSA has always been near tops for gun confiscation, no surprise there.
