Warning: Daughter's Dog Went Into Seizures Yesterday When Given a "DentaStix" Login/Join

Yesterday my eldest daughter gave her dog a "DentaStix" and it went into seizures and nearly died. Dog's jaw clenched as part of the seizures, but she was able to use a squirt bottle to give the dog a dose of peroxide mixed with water to induce vomiting, else it would've killed the dog.

"DentaStix" is manufactured by an outfit named Pedigree.

If you have some of that stuff for your dog, think long and hard before using it. Recommend you get rid of it.

Thanks,

Sap

Exactly! I don't even eat Chinese foods anymore. If you see the documentaries I've seen about their "foods", you will never eat Chinese foods, or anything that came out of China, again. As far as I'm concerned, these fuckers are out to poison the world.

So how exactly have you proved the seizure was caused by the Dentastix, and that eating that was not coincidental to some other cause?

I've been feeding all my dogs Dentastix for 10+ years, with no side effects.

Pedigree states that Dentastix are made in both Canada and the US. Not in China.

Same here, been using them for years without incident.

Maybe there is something in them your dog is allergic to?

I've given them to my dogs daily, for years. The big dog gets a whole one, the smaller dog gets half. Our latest acquisition, a tiny little thing gets a tiny piece cut to size. We've not had any problems, except for Jackson thinking he's not getting his fast enough.

was it a physical or biochemical reaction?

my smaller dog when chewing bones sometimes gets it caught in her teeth and she goes spastic trying to get it out. I'm always there to step in to help her get it out but she has done so so far.

My sister's dogs have been eating detastixs for almost ten years without any issues. In fact, when my mom watched them one weekend while my sister and family were on vacation, my mom was feeding them three or four a day (stupidly, but "the dogs kept begging me!")

Anyway, besides putting on a few pounds, they were no worse for wear.

Could there be Xylitol in the treats? It is in sugar free gum and is highly toxic to dogs

Glad he is okay. It's a good idea to stay away from anything Pedigree makes. As with dog food check the ingredient panels. They have a reputation for being at the bottom of the list for just about everything they make.

Regarding Greenies, hate to be 'that guy' but check that ingredient panel as well. It's not great, mostly grain and gelatin from unknown sources. Try to avoid giving your dogs anything containing
corn, wheat or soy:

"Wheat flour, wheat gluten, glycerin, gelatin, oat fiber, water, lecithin, natural poultry flavor, minerals (dicalcium phosphate, potassium chloride, calcium carbonate, magnesium amino acid chelate, zinc amino acid chelate, iron amino acid chelate, copper amino acid chelate, manganese amino acid chelate, ..."

There are several healthier options out there.

Yours is essentially a "correlation is not necessarily causation" argument.

At its foundation, your argument is true. I cannot prove the seizure was caused by the DentaStix.

The facts are these:

  • The dog is and has always been fundamentally healthy

  • The dog has never before had a seizure

  • Moments after being given a "DentaStix" for the first time the dog went into seizures

Draw your own conclusions. Maybe it was just something in the wind?

My purpose in posting was to share a warning. If you think the warning isn't valid, then by all means proceed at your own risk.

    Thanks,

    Sap
