I have only used this 2000 PSI pressure washer a few times. We just had a patio put in and I was washing off the stone dust from the black cap pavers on the wall when my circuit breaker tripped. I reset and the washer started for a second then the breaker tripped again. Reset and now the motor on the washer just buzzes/hums but doesn't start up. Hell I don't have the receipt. I think it has a 3 year warranty but not sure without a receipt how to take advantage. Anyhow is there a fairly inexpensive gas model that's good? I should have gone with my gut and not bought electric again. I don't think I've ever had one last more than 1 year. These go to eleven.

I would pursue the warranty on your Ryobi with either the store you purchased it from or with Ryobi directly. I have found that a polite approach with a legitimate complaint often works very well especially with how new your unit is. I think the pump is the usual problem area with a pressure washer either gas or electric. Motor failure would be less likely. If the pump locked up that could cause the breaker to trip. Pressure washers must have a good supply of incoming water properly bled to avoid damage to the pump. Running the pump dry can very quickly destroy some of them. Electric washers are much more convenient if they are powerful enough to do your job. I ran a Northern Tool gas washer for about 15 years and two pumps. The engine is still good but pump #2 is failing. I used it pretty frequently on the farm.

Pursue the warranty on your Ryobi, generally places like HD and LOWES can look up the reciept by the credit card you used.

It was home depot. I'll check with them. Yeah, pump makes sense. Although I never ran it dry. I always run the water for a few minutes first, make sure water is coming out of the sprayer and then turn on the motor. These go to eleven.

It’s got a serial # on it somewhere, they can figure out warranty off that, right?

I let the smoke out of the motor start capacitor on my old electric Husky pressure washer about a month ago. It behaved similarly to what you describe until I replaced the capacitor and now it works again.

I have a friend who is a Pro auto/boat detailer....he uses a brand called KARCHER, expensive but they work for years. Also look up Obsessed Garage, he sells Karcher and a few other brands. Another one of these "buy once, cry once" affairs I think.

Call Ryobi, they're pretty good with warranty requests. I've had 2 40v batteries replaced by them under warranty within the past 3 years. They were for a lawn mower. Call them, give them serial numbers, they might have to try some diagnostics, and they will process it from there. I was not asked to send the batteries back, they asked me to dispose of them through a recycling center, though. New ones came in through FedEx or UPS. _____________

Mine has done that in the past. It just needed to cool down and then ran fine.

I bought a Ryobi gas one at Home Depot last year. It has a Honda engine on it. Around $300 on sale I think. Not the fanciest one around but I like it. My sister bought the same one and she has gotten along well with it also.

Like others here have said pursue this through your seller or Ryobi. Have your serial number and model number ready when you call. Ryobi can determine a manufacturing date from that and guesstimate when it was sold. I had a GE Microwave die one month after the twelve month warranty had expired. I called GE, explained the problem and asked if they had a authorized repair facility nearby. Instead of that they offered me a goodwill solution. I had to purchase another GE product and send in the receipt for it. They would process a refund of the purchase price. Actually there were a few more steps but for expediency this explains how it worked. Similar thing happened with a dehumidifier this year, this time a month before the warranty expired. Again, similar process to the above handling. -------------------------------------—————— ————————--Ignorance is a powerful tool if applied at the right time, even, usually, surpassing knowledge(E.J.Potter, A.K.A. Home depot is the exclusive vendor for ryobi in the usa. If you bring it back to the store you bought it they will usually replace or refund you if in the 90 day window. I have experience with this for my dad who has to return ryobi stuff once or twice a year. First In Last Out

I was way outside the 90 day window. Bought in February. But it has a 3 year warranty. Anyhow problem resolved, after a bit of back and forth. I called the Ryobi number on the unit and they sent me to Home Depot. I went to Home Depot today and they were able to find my receipt. They then sent me to the tool rental department for service. Tool rental was busy so after about 40 minutes in line they told me they don't service electric pressure washers. So I asked what to do and he says to call Ryobi. I say they sent me here. He says call them again and maybe they will replace it. So I was a bit bothered with that answer since HD is pretty much the only place selling this brand. So I decided to not give up and went back to returns and explained I didn't know what to do when both Ryobi and HD were basically passing the buck. He looked it up, found the warranty and exchanged it no problem. So it took over an hour but I will continue with this unit until it dies again. These go to eleven.

I bought a gas Craftsman pressure washer a few years back. It has a Briggs & Stratton motor in it and it works great. No matter what we want to do or when we want to do it, it works. A friend bought an electric and had no end of trouble, then bought one exactly like mine and has never complained about it. Sig P226 .40 S&W Sig SP2022 9mm RIA 1911 Gov't .45 ...and more

Are you sure about HD being the exclusive vendor? I ask because Ryobi tools are on Amazon - often from multiple sellers. Speak softly and carry a

I know that years ago, 35 or so, they were exclusive. I remember reading that Home Depot contacted Techtronics Industries (TTI) and asked them to make a budget line to compete with major brands exclusively for them. If that deal has expired I'm not sure. I know that there are multiple sites that sell ryobi tools that are refurbished or "factory blemished" when it really isn't but that's how they get around the exclusivity deal. ETA: I just got this off the wiki.... The Ryobi Tools brand in North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand is licensed by Techtronic Industries of Hong Kong, an original equipment manufacturer for brands such as Milwaukee, AEG (AEG Powertools, licensed from Electrolux), Ryobi, Homelite, Hoover US, Dirt Devil, and Vax. Around 1988, Ryobi purchased the assets of the former Diehl Motor Company (a one-time division of Singer Corporation), which was the supplier of Sears Craftsman hand-held power tools. After the purchase, Ryobi continued to supply Sears with power tools. These tools typically had a model number beginning with "315" or "973". In the United States and Canada, Ryobi power tools are sold primarily through Home Depot and the Internet. In Australia and New Zealand the line is sold exclusively by Bunnings Warehouse. In the UK the power tools are sold at hardware stores. found this on home depot site.. Who makes Ryobi Tools for Home Depot? The Home Depot, Inc. The Home Depot owns two home brands in the tools category. They also exclusively sell brands of power tools and equipment such as Ryobi and WORX. Is ridgid a Home Depot brand? Ridgid power tools sold exclusively by Home Depot are developed, produced, and marketed by TTI. Ridgid hand tools and other plumbing and professional industry tools are not included in the arrangement. It is possible the web stores are using canada as a work around for selling new Ryobi tools or specific tools are not subject, or there is no more exclusivity. First In Last Out
