Just saw this. Very sad. He was one of the best comedy talents I have ever seen. Rest in peace Jerry.

And his work on behalf of Muscular Dystrophy. I think the telethons and benefits he did covered a 45 year span of time.

RIP Jerry. One of my favorite comedians.

When I was growing up, Jerry Lewis was a real star. My family watched the M-D Telethon every year. I'd stay up all night to watch them roll the tote board.

I can't imagine my childhood without his movies.

Me, too. It was a big event. We always participated locally. I always enjoyed the musical guests / bands that performed.

Though not unexpected, it's very sad to see this. While I'm a kid of the '70s, I grew up watching the old films of Abbott and Costello, Hope and Crosby, and Martin and Lewis films (and Lewis' wonderful solo films) on the old 12" B&W set I had in my room. These duos (and a few other comedy icons) were an integral part of my childhood, and while it was sad to see Hope pass back in '03, it is, for me, even more so to see Lewis pass, not only because Martin and Lewis were my favorite duo and, I think, the ones who stood the test of time the best, but because it represents, as the OP stated, the official end of an era.

I'd have to search, but we may have had a thread on that a while back; depending on who was asked Jerry was either the fastest or second fastest draw in Hollywood. Right there with Sammy Davis, Jr.

Yep, likely a toss-up between Lewis and Davis Jr.

Epic humorist lost forever. Godspeed, Jerry.

This was a great loss for the comedic universe. Just because it wasn't unexpected (think Phil Hartman) doesn't mean it isn't just as tragic.

It's like a small piece of myself died. He had that kind of reach. He touched many, many lives in his life. That means his comedy will live on.

Lost my brother to MD back in '75. Just weeks before his 15th birthday.

What Jerry & the Telethon, and MDA did for those kids was pretty special. Doubt anyone could do something like that now.

This song he performed at the end of each Telethon was always impossible for me to watch without becoming a complete blubbering mess.
