Wireless transmitter/receiver for surround sound speakers
Running wires would be a gigantic pain in the rear and a ton of drywall work.
I have 2 sets of rear speakers.
Is there a kit that will do both??

The rocket fish is supposed to be good.
Rocketfish Universal Wireless Rear Speaker Kit RF-WHTIB-A https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000...cp_api_0bq8zbJVGN7VX

But it does not appear to have selectable channels so I worry if I bought 2 they would interfere with each other.

I recently moved from a house with a dedicated HT room to one that is just part of "bonus room" type setup over 3-car garage. Had exactly the same problem, was surprised no wire was pulled in a 5-year old house, but it is supposed to count as a bedroom....

I really wanted to find a wireless solution but couldn't find one that seemed it would be half decent and not cost $700-$1500 for two rear speakers. I ended up going full redneck and running about 150' wire around baseboards. I was lucky this is the one room in house with carpet, or I don't know what I'd have done.

I've never personally used this but the OAW4 should work although you will need 2 of them. You can select from 4 channels so it should handle 2 pair of surround speakers.

You'll lose a lot of sound quality as a result of the compression.

One thing about "wireless" speakers:. They still need power. Either 120 VAC or batteries (which would be a total pain to go dead during a movie).

When applicable, I’ve found that high quality 3.1 can often outweigh what you feel like you’re missing if you can’t run wires for 5.1 and 7.1.

I feel like most mixes and movie sound tracks use the rear for mostly ambient noise and superfluous additional sounds.

YMMV

Outlet in the utility closet where I was able to run the wires to so I am good there.

I have the Rocketfish setup installed on a single pair of speakers. It's been installed for a couple of weeks and no complaints so far. In that time period I have not watched anything on TV to take full advantage of the rear channels I've not used for the last number of years. That said, it does work and was simple to set up. Best price I found was a new unit in an open box on eBay.

Is there a way to choose channels on the Rocketfish?

The Amazon Q&A and the Best Buy Q&A seem to indicate that the sets are paired. The transmitter will only "talk" to the receiver from the same set. That's been my experience with Samsung home theater gear for wireless rear speakers, i.e. the units are paired.

In the middle of Best Buy Q&A page 3 for "Rocketfish™ - Universal Wireless Rear Speaker Kit - Black' (Model:RF-WHTIB SKU:8275528), Rocketfish Customer Support states there may be some interference though.

"There might be interference since they broadcast on the same frequency. The good news is that each receiver and transmitter will only pair to each other. So it might work. The only issue you might encounter is some signal interference between the 2 of them. You will need 2 transmitters and receivers since they come as a paired set.

Although expensive, Audioengine makes a wireless system, they claim no significant sound delay.

They might claim it, but listen to reality before believing the sales brochure. Smile

Also, if the only beer in the cooler was Shitz Malt Liquor; would you drink Shitz or stay with water?

Crap is not better than nothing. Wink

(Caveat - I can hear the difference between an mp3 and a CD, I can hear the difference between Bose and Klpisch. YMMV

It depends if my only pupose was to get drunk Shlitz it is.

Since they are rears it is mainly fill anyway. No serious quality is really necessary. The rear audio is not generally all that detailed.

I can tell a difference between an MP3 and CD as well.

You just might want to hear a few options then.

My first set was a wired, low end pair. They worked was about it. Then moved up to a set of Cerwin-Vega, also wired. The difference was night and day (and my room is a crap design for sound reflections).

I already have good speakers.
Just need to get signal to them. Sadly when the previous owner finished the basement they only thought rear speakers half way.

Have you considered flat, paintable cable?

For awhile I ran some under my carpet and up the wall. In the planning process of running conduit behind the wall. Had to be routed around a chimney. Plus, I want to include different formats/ hardware locations for future use.

I am pretty sure I have an extra roll of flat cable in the garage if you'd like to try it.

I have a roll that I used at the old place going under a rug.

I have way too much crown molding, door moldings, and an open stair entry to make it feasible.

I have the speakers mounted on the wall and the wires run to the utility closet as I pulled the trim down and built a wall separating the home gym and main area. The rub is getting it from the utility closet to the wall the entertainment center is on. I have a metal beam up top. If I try to go down low I have an open stairwell opening and a closet door opening.

I have one last option but it would take some drywall work in the bulkhead which will be a gigantic pain in the tail.
