POLL: When do you carry a handgun?
Two very recent threads have me wondering about this topic. One was "do you carry when cutting the grass?", and today there is one "do you carry when fishing?"<BR><BR>My position is that if you believe in firearms for self-defense and you have the ability, you should carry a handgun at all times you are physically and legally capable of doing so. A handgun is convenient to carry because it is relatively small and light, and thus I always carry when I can. <BR><BR>I don't just carry when I think I might need it. If I really thought the odds were good that I'd need it, I either wouldn't go to that place, or if I had to go I'd be armed with a rifle or shotgun, and preferably bring some friends similarly equipped. So, I'm showing my bias, but I'm wondering if I'm in the minority or majority. When do you carry a handgun on your person? At all times that I am dressed and legally able to carry, including inside my home.Any time I'm going out in public.Only when I think I face a greater than average risk, ie. bank, gas station, walmart, etc.Always- even in the shower!Never.

I put anytime that I go out in public, but really it's anytime that I go out the door and sometimes in the house.

From when I put clothes on in the morning until I take them off at night. The chances I'll ever need it are vanishing small, but I'd much rather have it and not need it...

If I thought I needed a gun, I either wouldn't go, or I'd bring a rifle.

I mentioned that in my original post. But that doesn't answer the question. Does this mean that you never carry because you never go anywhere you think you need a gun?

I'm guessing you meant to ask ask airsoft guy. I was just adding the "and friends with rifles " to his response. If I'm wearing clothes and it is legal, I am carrying a pistol.

Being plastic, they don't rust.

Dressed? Then I'm carrying P226.

On Sigforum, you are in the majority. In the population at large... well that's a horse of a different plaid.

Rarely, unfortunately I can not at work, and on the weekends unless I know I will be in VA the entire day, no then too.

I probably wont ever need a gun, but maybe I might, so that's why I have a pistol when I go out, and why I have loaded rifles and shotguns at home. If I do ever need a gun, it'll most likely be at home.

I voted, "Any time I go out in public".
There's always something handy in the house.

Pocket gun for the little town of Wickebrug (P-938). For the valley area (Phoenix), it's a P220-45.

I'm not allowed to carry at work, or even on the property at work. But I carry pretty much all the time otherwise when I'm out and about. Sitting around the house I've usually got one close by but not on me.

Here's to the sunny slopes of long ago.

You can figure if I'm dressed, I'm carrying. Only place I don't is where it's not legal and at my EMS job (company policy)

Carrying for me is every time I leave the house and am in public. Technically, I don't "carry" in the house, yet there are guns easily available to me.

If I leave the house, I am armed. And have something near to hand when at home.

That's me. Sometimes I'll have one in my pocket around the house, but there's always a long gun within lunging distance.

Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here.

Although sometimes distracting, there is often a certain entertainment value to this easy standard.
