I got a new Streamlight today. Actually, my 4th and now we all have one in our car. It lists some brands of batteries to use, but Surefire is not on the list.

Is this like Remington saying not to use Winchester ammo in our guns?

Batteries are standardized in large part

So Streamlight wants you to spend money with their competition?

Streamlight never said not to use Surefire batteries. They simply left them out of the list. But, seriously, I wouldn't blame them for not promoting their competition. You don't see SIG promote Speer or Federal ammo on their website, when they're selling their own brand of ammo, do you?

Probably didn't want to recommend any company that was in competition with them, and most battery manufacturers probably aren't.

I assumed that is what it was. S&W never wanted to chamber a pistol in .45 Colt as they didn't want to put the other guys name on their revolver.

If it physically fits and meets the proper specifications necessary then why not?

A battery is a battery.

At least when they produced a pistol chambered for the round they marked it “.357 SIG.” As I recall, Glock calls it the nonexistent “.357 Auto.”

You never see ".45 ACP" on a P220.

IIRC, until Bill. Sr. died, Rugers were just marked 45 CALIBER. Now the word COLT appears in the rollmark.

^ That might have been more about convertible models than brands.

Now 30-30 marked Marlins vs 30 Winchester Centerfire.

They're fine. If we're talking CR123s, or similar, I'd suggest Duracells in bulk for everything. You'll pay a buck or two a battery and they just work.

FWIW, over the years, I have had good service from the Surefire batteries.

When it comes to CR123A batteries I won't use anything but Surefire. Use them in your Streamlight. They won't hurt a thing. Sounds like Streamlight doesn't want to give a nod to a competitor.

If anything I've found Surefires more available in bulk. Try Home Depot. Im halfway thru a pack of ten I purchased three years back, seven more to go. Lithiums were invented for a long shelf life sitting in storage at military depots.

I use Streamlight lights - but has anyone seen any of their batteries on the shelf? Duracell at their exploitative pricing in big box discount stores is the other choice, which isn't. Surefire made their creds using CR123s a decade ago, their batteries were a good expansion of the product line thru the police supply stores in big metros. Now I find them in lumberyards.

I have a supply of Surefire batteries on hand. I just thought it funny that Streamlight chose not to mention what is probably the most respected and used brand of CR-123 batteries.

I was able to load up on Surefire batteries a year or so ago when Lowe's closed them all out.

The surefire CR 123 lasts ~10 years. Buying stock make sure it’s new.

I’ve had stock piles go bad. Keep an eye on it.

The same is true of alkalines.

Fortunately, I use a flashlight enough that my batteries never hit expiration, whether it's AA, AAA or CR123.
