If any of your daughters have makeup from Claire's, read this article. Looks like asbestos has been found in some of the products.

I don't doubt asbestos was found, but, what mom sends her daughter's kit in to be tested? And then her law firm buys kits in other states? Something ain't quite right here.

Seems like a bit of hysteria to me. Unless you are inhaling or eating your makeup, what is the concern?

I would imagine it's relatively easy to inhale makeup particles, especially powders.

I typically don't get too worked up about stuff like this, but I'm not taking any chances with asbestos.

I wouldn’t take any chances with the kids, but I’m not convinced the whole asbestos paranoia isn’t a bunch of overreaction. When I was a teenager and worked in a garage, the first thing we did was use a bench grinder to chamfer the corners on the disk brake pads so the brakes wouldn’t chatter. Guess what the pads were made of - yup, asbestos. I never had any issues, nor did any of the guys I worked with, many of whom had been doing that for a *LOT* of years. Do you have any idea how much crap you aerate when you use a bench grinder to chamfer the corners of a brake pad? How ‘bout when you use a blaster on the end of an airline to blow everything out before you take the old pads out?

There is a MST of transite (asbestos) pipe around and I’m sure there are folks making a MST of dollars removing it (google transite pipe removal for giggles), but I can’t see where it does a bit of harm buried in the ground...

You have to realize you may not see the results until you get into your later years if it involves the lungs and by then it is too late.

Look at a pair of lungs from a smoker compared to normal lungs and you will get the message. When I worked at the hospital maintenance department one summer during high school, the pathologists showed me the lungs of a smoker which were coal tar black compared to the pink color of a non-smoker.
