What's the worst part of your job?
What do you do and what's the worst part?

As a IT recruiter that does a bunch of IT Contract roles. Still to this day I hate firing people when a customer asks me to. Budget cuts, headcount loss, company shifting a different direction, what ever reason. It always sucks.

Now if you are incompetent or negligent. Meh... don't mind it as much.

I once had to fire someone at 12:00 noon on Christmas Eve Day. Awful.

Big Grin That's too funny!

No. Just that was their last working day of the week. They were working a half day on that day. So terminating them at the end of the working week.

The idiot customers that have no clue what they’re talking about and think they deserve deep discounts because they’re so incredible.

I’m an investigator for manufacturing deviations in biotech. Basically anything that goes wrong gets investigated for root cause and corrective actions. It’s a never ending shit show. The entire job means as soon as you close an investigation you have 2 more to start. Lack of satisfaction because you never feel like you are making progress.

Not to mention I’m a manager so I have to ensure all my direct reports investigations are on track.

Engineer in oil & gas. Oil & gas has been extraordinarily busy in 2022 (we haven't been this busy since 2014).

To me, the worst part is that meeting 101 that got thrown out the window during COVID and all of the virtual meetings. Some of the lowlights:
  • Cancelling 10 or 15 minutes before a meeting. I usually passed up something to prepare for and attend your meeting. Then, the inconsiderate person will inevitably try to reschedule later in the week or next week.
  • Not putting an agenda in a meeting. I have to choose which meeting to attend, and it will be the one that describes the benefit to the corp.
  • My job occasionally deals with actual emergencies, but rest assured your piss poor planning doesn't qualify as my emergency.
  • Not planning tomorrow until 4 PM. You're SOL getting on my schedule the next day unless it's an actual emergency.
  • Telling/writing me that it's unfair that I'm actually taking a day off that I planned months in advance. In other words, piss poor planning on their part again.

Mandatory company meetings, particularly training meetings related to DEI, (pronoun training, unconscious bias, blah, blah, blah)

My god the unconscious bias thing is horrible. I just had this stupid training. I had to give an example. I said there was a guy I thought was lazy. But I realized my bias when he had a great explanation for not getting things done on time. But then I threw in a twist. “Oh, he’s a white guy my age with the same political and religious beliefs. I’m confused now by this training. “

The worst part of my job is budgets. I've been promoted to the point where everyone else gets to go do the fun things while I stare at spreadsheets.

    Tech Support.

I absolutely loath my company's promotion of ESG/DEI; not only is time & resources wasted but it actually increases racism & sexism.

Just saw this post on Instapundit:

The worst part of my job? Dealing with patients.

The best part of my job? Dealing with patients. This part outweighs the worst part. Smile

Why does everyone play along 'so' willingly. I'd refuse to call DEI and default to referring to it as DIE, as it's the sure path for the company (and it's employee moral, camaraderie, etc) to DIE by a THOUSAND cuts! Roll Eyes

    I've been fully self-employed since 2011.

The hardest part is not knowing when or if more work or income will ever come.

Last month we saw a 90% drop in engaged contracts, but realistically it's been slowing since July.
