I'm sitting out back and hear a chain saw, look over and there's a dude in a tree and a crane. The crane is parked at the non-tree owners house, but cutting the tree of the owner. I think to myself that's weird. Guess he asked permission to use his driveway to access the tree. Then the tree owner comes out and starts yelling at tree climber. Not speaking Spanish I have no clue if he's saying get the fuck out of my tree or if he's saying awes job, but just yelling over the equipment.

After a while the climber gets out of the tree and they pack things up and it's evident that he wasn't yelling good things at the climber.

This is what they left, pretty much murdered his tree and now he's going to have to remove the tree because they cut 80% of it down.

The police would have been their if it were me, either because I called them or I was beating the everliving shit out of my neighbor.

Who the hell does this? The tree was healthy and not a nuisance to the person who cut it.

If the owner took the neighbor to court, it wouldn't be small claims court.

How close were the limbs from his roof? I'd actually be more concerned with the roots destroying the foundation than the limbs.

Bets are something else was going on between the two. Leaves falling and blocking gutters on the neighbor's home that initiated the tree cutting action perhaps. Regardless this was NOT the way to solve anything.

The cutter illegally placed the garage too close to both of our yards (was a ten year fight with the county over that). I got them to force him to finish it, get permits, and to fix the grading, but they stopped short of making him tear it down and relocate it. If he was concerned about roots he shouldn't have put the garage so close to the property line.

Also if his concern was for his roof he could have cut only the stuff over his property.

Doubt it will die, I've seen trees bigger than that cut back further and get by just fine.

You can bet this is just Round One. Sadly everyone is more irritable than usual. These sorts of things often end in violence.

Jesse,

Sounds like the "cutter" is a piece of work with that history you provided.

Maybe time for all the adjoining neighbors to play hardball including revisiting that illegally built garage. Dirtbags like this will just continue to push as evident by this cutting action.

Honestly you don't know how much I hate the guy behind me. I wouldn't lose a wink of sleep if he killed the dude.

I’m surprised he cut it were it’s on the owners property. Where I live you can cut any part of a neighboring tree that hangs over your property. I’ve seen utility companies massacre a tree way worse than that.

Same where I live. If it goes over the fence, I can cut it off.

I pursued it the furthest I could. This guy has been the biggest pain in the ass ever. After he got past inspection, he built a lean to on the side of the garage made out of scrap OSB and plywood that I have to watch rot when I sit in my backyard. He's put up a fence composed of trash from the side of the road without taking down his chain link fence (because it's what holds up his fence). He built a shed and sided three sides of it, but left the side facing my house as OSB. This is what I look at in my backyard.

He did similar to my tree a few months back and left the branches in my yard, which I tossed back over the fence into his yard.

Lastly he put an addition on his house with no permits.

The guy cutting it was in the owners yard and cut portions of the tree 3' across the property line. If he cut it from the property line and from within his own yard, he'd be fully within his rights.

Jesse,

The kind of aggressive obnoxious shit this jackwad has done ought to be subject to some kind of lawsuit. His malice and intentional moves to degrade adjacent property values deserves a legal asskicking!
