And one thing no one has ever explained to my satisfaction: If we have or develop the technology to make Mars a habitable place, why can't we just stay put and use the same technology to keep the Earth a habitable place?

You realize you are calling half of my neighborhood clowns and conceited . . . . which is reasonably accurate. Smile

At the height of the Cold War, a full-on, everybody play, and everybody brings all their toys nuclear exchange might have done it.

IIRC that was about 62,000 megatons.

Nope, I spend enough time away from my family on deployments, I don't need to leave for some awful place I will die at.

Even if I had a day or less to spend on Mars before I died it would be worth it. To be the first human to step foot on another planet. It would be incredible.

There is nothing for me here on earth, I'm quite tired of it.

If accommodations were 1st class, and all expenses paid, it might be something to consider in retirement, or is the journey the highlight and you crash into Mars...no landing?

Nope, the only way I travel is on the ground. I hate flying at 35,000 feet, let alone space!

Mars is absolutely over-rated. Not even worthy of being called a 'rest stop.'

I found what you said riveting.

I would go to Mars via Recall inc, especially if there was going to be a party there and Richter was going!
