Mrs.BurtonRW and I closed on our new (old) house yesterday afternoon and while we're going to hire out most of the renovation that needs to be done, I'm certainly going to do the relatively simple things, like upgrading some old outlets.

Definitely going to have a few w/ USB plugs. I've installed Leviton Dual Type As and they work very well. But that was a few years ago, before USB-C really hit its stride. Now I'm faced with a difficult decision (maybe).

Do I upgrade to dual USB-A outlets, or do I split them and go with the USB-A / USB-C combo outlets?

On the face of it, I have an easy decision, since I don't own anything that uses USB-C plugs. That said, it appears to be the future of USB data and power, so I'd hate to install the dual As and find myself wanting to change them in a few years. On the other hand, if my tech needs don't evolve as quickly as modern USB standards, I'll certainly wish I had those dual As instead of wasting half the outlet on USB-C I'm not using

Just use the conventional USB connection and an adaptor if a new device so requires it.
All it is for charging anyway,correct?

Any idea whether the USB-A outlets are USB 3.1 compatible? USB-C has much faster speeds than USB 1 or 2.

i have a few a-c for galaxy 8+.

That's the only thing I would care about. The charging speeds are significantly faster as well, but at the end of the day, that's not really important. If I'm at home, whatever I have plugged in is either not in need of rapid charging, or plugged in to essentially trickle charge anyway.

I’d go with USB-C. The USB-A outlets are 2.0 delivering up to 10 watts per port. The Leviton USB-C puts out 30 watts per port. This should allow it to charge much faster, and perhaps be able to charge your laptop or large tablet. I don’t think you could do that with the USB-A outlets

I would buy a few USB adapter outlets that plug into the existing outlets where you need them.
These things seem to change every few years so that way you can simply change the adapters as needed.

I did a renovation at the beginning of the year
by code, I needed two outlets in my kitchen island.

I went with USB A/C outlets. For the rest of the renovation, I used regular outlets no USB.

I have only used one other outlet for charging.

I would only put them where you have someplace to put a laptop or phone to charge without tripping over the cord.

I've installed several USB A/C outlets. Very happy with them.
