If this virus gets so bad and things start shutting down(I know, they are starting), we have to think of the banks closing and we can't get our money out. Do we withdraw it and hide it, or leave it and hope the banks reopen.
Have some cash on hand or "I'm taking all my money out, just in case".
What is everyone's opinion?

Not a financial expert. With that said, I have long felt that one should keep enough cash on hand to get by for some period of time. It isn’t like you are missing a ton of interest having a stack of fifties in your safe instead of being an unsecured creditor of the bank for that amount.

As far as banks shutting down, I suppose anything is possible, but I’d think that is *highly* unlikely.

Don’t panic, but do have a rainy day stash.

I'd be more worried about grocery stores running out of food before I'd worry about ATM machines running dry.

You need toilet paper. Toilet paper will replace money and be used for bartering in this if TEOTWAWKI happens. You didn't get the memo? Toilet paper wipes a lot better than $1 bills.

I've got guns partially for this reason. Not end of times, but I'm alright for a bit if it is.

I'm one of the ones saying this shit is serious, but TEOTWAWKI it is not.

Lets just say, if you are worrying about getting cash out of a bank, you should have bigger worries.

Water, food, shelter, defense, etc. All before cash.

Your everyday and emergency money ought to be spread around several institutions, optimally, to deal with the potential of any one account being hacked, etc. That diversity would also serve in case one or another institution imploded through mismanagement.

The Fed is throwing cash into the system (buying stuff, paying with dollars) that there will be no shortage of cash.

TL: DR - Banks in general are not at risk. We are stuck in the WAWKI for the foreseeable. Wink

My friends always joked if there was a zombie uprising they were coming to my house. My reply is always the same ......

“Bring toilet paper and bourbon.”

I feel prophetic.

My response was always, “ hold up some liquor or hold up some ammo, otherwise you’re getting shot”

Pretty close to that here as well.

Either that or have a valuable skill like medicine, mechanic, etc.

I will take 2-4 useful idiots in with minimal gun knowledge and only the slightest backbone - give them a pump shotgun and 5 rounds of light birdshot. Someone has to stand guard and serve as a warning that shit is coming for those who can really take care of things.

BIL and his wife/kids fit into that category around here, but they have to live in the guest house with the in-laws. No way I can stay under the same roof as those morons.

Every paycheck I take out $200 and put it in the safe. I have quite a stack of cash on hand if I need it. I've always advocated that people should strive to have at least $10 thousand in cash on hand.
