"What, me worry?" It's a sad day, even though I have not read an issue of Mad in many decades. As a kid I LOVED the magazine, and couldn't wait for the next issue. I thought the world was nuts, but nobody else seemed to think so-- except Mad magazine. So long, Alfred. It's crackers to slip a rozzer the dropsy in snide. *sniff sniff* *sigh* "By Victor Morton - The Washington Times - Wednesday, July 3, 2019 America’s most venerable spoof magazine, the source of one of President Trump’s most recent jibes at the Democrats, is reportedly no more. MAD magazine will cease publishing new material later this year, with the 10th issue, according to multiple accounts. Citing “two separate sources close to the situation,” comicbook.com confirmed reports from earlier Wednesday evening that an editor at MAD had spilled the beans on the magazine’s fate in a Facebook group. David DeGrand, a contributing artist to the magazine, independently responded to a Twitter query about the rumors with “Can confirm.” According to the reported Facebook account, MAD will recycle older material until its subscription obligations are fulfilled and then the presses will stop." https://www.washingtontimes.co...utting-down-reports/ Don Martin cracked me up the moment I opened the page to his whacky drawings.... ______________________________________________________ "You get much farther with a kind word and a gun than with a kind word alone."

I loved that magazine when its original publisher, William Gaines, was still alive, not so much after that. My favorite part was the Don Martin cartoons (given their own "department), closely followed by those of Sergio Aragones, who also drew the little cartoons in the page margins. Although a few artists/writers had a liberal bent to their politics, Mad made fun of everyone and everything equally, yet without being mean-spirited.

I loved that magazine when I was younger. I remember laughing so hard that I nearly cried. Goodbye, Alfred, it was fun while it lasted. No one's life, liberty or property is safe while the legislature is in session.- Mark Twain

I loved it when i was a kid and could sneak one at summer camp. It was strictly taboo in my house. I looked at picking up a subscription for my kids, and realized, maybe it was wise of my parents. Now that they are at an age where it might make sense. Shrug.

I learned english thanks to Mad Magazine as a kid. Used to read every comic magazine I could get my hands on (in spanish) and when that wasn`t enough I turned to Mad Magazine and later to Cracked. Sad, very sad. ![]() 0-0 "OP is a troll" - Flashlightboy, 12/18/20

Loved the magazine as a kid. To be honest I thought they stopped publishing the magazine years ago. In the town I grew up in there was a kid that was a spitting image of the Alfred E Newman character to the point everyone called him Alfred. I don't think anyone new his real name. It's interesting how many of us in these posts used the word "love" to describe our feelings about Mad. I'll speak for myself, but maybe it applies to others: I started reading Mad around age 9 or 10. For me, this was when the outside world began to intrude into my private child's world. And holy fuck it looked crazy! Everyone around me, though, kept going on with their daily lives as if it made sense. But then I slunk off to the corner news stand and bought my copy of Mad--25 cents-- Cheap-- and these guys got it! Don Martin, Bob and Ray, Ernie Kovacs, Orson Bean, we all shared the same joke: the world is mad! Our response was pure silliness. What, me worry? I loved the magazine the way we love a good friend. ______________________________________________________ "You get much farther with a kind word and a gun than with a kind word alone."

So sad. I really enjoyed the humor so many years ago. My son got into the magazine as well. I remember making an extra stop on the way home from work to get him the latest copy.

I was a voracious Mad Magazine consumer during those tender years. I have fond memories reading that stuff, funny as hell, it probably helped shape my current animus related to government and lefties in general. I have a few still, one of them was the issue when the Jaws movie came out, that was funny stuff, a very unique and heart warming American magazine. I'm sorry to see them go. Add me to the list of those who loved the magazine as a kid. I’ve not read one in a long time but I used to walk to a small drug store monthly to pick a new issue up. “Everybody wants a Sig in the sheets but a Glock on the streets.” -bionic218 04-02-2014

Back in the 50s and early 60s my best friend and I used to pool our money , ride our bikes about 2 miles to the local grocery store . There we would buy the latest edition of MAD and a new snack called Fritos. Go back home and enjoy them both. Bought many ,many issues. Great memories.

I have memories of getting special editions for xmas or when I was in the hospital. One time I was in for pneumonia and bronchitis and laughed so hard at one of them that I had to get a shot and breathing treatment. Thanks for almost killing me MAD. ![]()
