So looking at lights.
Surefire charges $299 for the X300 lights direct from their website. They sell a dozen 123a batteries for $25.
But I can go to Amazon and Surefire sells the X300 bundled with a dozen batters and a battery case for $270.
Why do that?

JALLENSome people won’t buy at retail but will buy if they think they are getting a deal.
Some will find buying at Amazon easier and convenient, more so than buying online from a new vendor.

This, and it's probably far more costly for Surefire to hire all of the warehousing and packing and shipping people themselves,than to just send an entire semi to Amazon and let them do what they do best (dealing with customers, boxing, and shipping to individuals.)

WoodmanSurefire is privately-owned. They design and manufacture their product. Conducting a one-at-a-time retailing operation - which I did with USA-made Meiser gauges - is a tough way to make money.
The last Amazon/eBay batteries I bought were date-stamped a couple months shy of their ten year shelf life guarantee. The packaging of the 12-count box seemed new.
Surefire offered free shipping in February 2014 in honor of Presidents Day if you ordered in a four-day window. The family bean-counters probably were grinding their teeth on that one; it has not been repeated since.
