I have an older laptop running Win7 in the shop, and a desktop running Win10 in the house. They are connected via a LAN. When I open the Network tab in Explorer I can see both computers (and the various printers on the network) but can't log in between computers to share files. What settings do I need to check and ensure they match, or is a W7 to W10 connection not possible? Be careful when following the masses. Sometimes the M is silent.

You need to create a share and use the proper credentials to access it.

The share I knew, the credentials are what hung me up. I don't use passwords to log in on my home computers and the default network permissions don't allow blank passwords. As soon as I created passworded logins, all was well. I'll take some time soon to find the appropriate permission to allow blank passwords because having to type in a password every time I fire up my home computer is a pain in the ass. It's not like I have kids at home to keep out... Be careful when following the masses. Sometimes the M is silent.
