The Arizona Supreme Court ruled on Aug. 14 that a proposal that would make it a crime for migrants to cross the southern border and empower local police to make arrests near the state’s border with Mexico will appear on the Nov. 5 ballot.

In issuing its ruling, the state’s highest court rejected a challenge from Latino groups who argued the proposal—known as Proposition 314—violates a rule in the state constitution limiting ballot questions to a single subject.
The court said it agreed with a previous lower court ruling on the matter that rejected that argument.

In an order by Chief Justice Ann A. Scott Timmer, the state’s highest court concluded the measure satisfies the single-subject rule.

“The Court unanimously agrees with the superior court that Appellants have not met their burden to overcome the strong presumption that HCR 2060 is constitutional,” the court wrote.

The Arizona House of Representatives passed Proposition 314, also known as HCR 2060, in June.

and 3 years and 8 months of invasion. By the time this is enacted, Trump will be the president and the border will be closed anyhow.

I agree with you that it has been way worse under kamala. I am surprised that in the history of the state, the issue of invasion has just now come up. It seems like we are dealing with a lot of issues that should have been decided 100 years ago.

Sounds marvy, but Arizona should have been pushing this on day one. Throwing a big middle finger at Biden 3.5 years ago would have been way more effective at forcing the issue.

Az. is way more democrat than it used to be, but it is not a pure democrat state....yet!!

Not to mention liberal Governor hobbs, liberal Secretary of State/Lt. Governor fontes and liberal AG mayes (former love interest of former Governor napalitano). They are the top three politicians calling the shots on the future of AZ.

FYI, hobbs has vetoed every GOP bill (x143) since taking office.

We are a democrat run state.

Just look at all the fraud in the last election - all the info was squashed and data was conveniently destroyed.

No real difference between us and Minnesota or New York. Democrat strangulation is the same result.

I remember AZ back in the day when I was young and lived here. Great state. Soon to be California #2.

Given the huge influx of CA money and influence into our last 4 or 5 elections, that’s a real scary proposition

CA is working tirelessly to export its influence to neighboring states.

That’s how they swing State votes.
You don’t need to “win a state”, you only need to win counties.

Clark, NV
Carry those and you win the state. Something the Demonrats have been using for decades.
I hope the R’s have got their poop in a group regarding the above counties, otherwise it will be more of the same BS we saw in ‘20.
Remember the 3(?) weeks Maricopa Co. took to count votes? They keep at it until a D wins…no matter what!

Kind of a novel approach though - verifying the constitutionality of a new law BEFORE it actually becomes law. Pity we can't seem to that in general.
