We have a Ring doorbell and a “No Soliciting” sign immediately above it. Doesn’t matter, they either can’t or won’t read it. It’s almost like they take it as a challenge.
Had one, a group of women, point at the no soliciting sign, make a comment, then ring the bell anyway. We were in the pool and ignored it.

A Doberman works really well at discouraging salespeople. Used to let the dog stick its head out first when I answered the door. Something about the sudden shock and dog's reputations tends to put solicitors off their game and they never came back. Now, I have a fenced in yard with gate across driveway and free roaming Doberman in yard. Have yet to have anyone open gate and claim the sign doesn't include them. I found Rottweilers and Pitbull-mix dogs work great too although the Pitbull-mix tended to take his job a little too seriously.

Even though I own my home, I tell them I rent, that stops them right then and they all leave.

I’m rude to them because we have a dead end neighborhood with CLEAR “no solicitation” signs at the entrance. Had a car pull down the driveway last year and out steps two guys that were likely Latter Day Saints as one guy looked like a newbie and the older guy his guide.
As soon as their mouths started working I cut them off, pointing back the way they came, and said “that’s the way out”. The older guy tried to smile and keep up the dialogue to which I again cut him off saying “how is this confusing? Get off my property”. As they were getting back in the car I told them the entire neighborhood is off limits and that they’d better be moving on or I’d call the sheriffs department and report them trespassing. They moved on.

I can be rude. I ask their name, then repeat their name and say, "I want you to get off my property right now."

Just a point of order.
Generally speaking, when a religious person knocks on your door, that is not considered soliciting.
Nor is it soliciting when somebody talking about political candidates or issues shows up. As an additional point here, one of the reasons we are where we are at as a nation is that people are so uninvolved with their elected representatives. Not only do people not make any efforts to seek out these people to understand what they stand for, but they run them off when they take the initiative to reach out to their constituents.
A person's right to be let alone, trumps evangelizing, and political canvassing.

I sell WL insurance. I don't cold knock, I work by appointment only. But I occasionally go to or have been given a wrong address. Those signs mean absolutely nothing in AZ. They are invisible to all but amateur sales people. In fact, in many thousands of appts, even the most forbidding looking properties, no one has ever once complained when they answered the door about my having ignored their signs. Once in a while someone is wearing a gun when they answer the door. We always have a gun chat and, at the very worst, I hand them one of my FFL business cards.
I don't know how to make someone's property really deter door knockers other than to ignore anyone who shows up without an appointment. My biggest customer was a door knock of a wrong address because the phone number was out of service. I have written countless policies for lots of members of that family and they always want more. But then, well, there was no fence, the lady answered the doorbell and she just happened to have just bought a terrible WL policy I was able to greatly improve upon. Another longtime and good customer actually threatened me with violence when I knocked on her door. Now she says, "I love you" every time we hang up after a phone call.

Then you need to put up a “no canvassing” sign.
You can’t complain that a “canvasser” ignores a “no soliciting” sign when in fact they are “not soliciting”.

I will speak with political candidates of both parties. They are local folks and I have had some good conversations with candidates of both parties. Religious solicitation? Nope, not for me. I have chosen my path to spirituality and, if I wish to change, I will select the new path. Unfortunately they can be persistent. I recall working on my motorcycle in my driveway. Two religious solicitors started walking down my drive. I asked them to stop and leave. They continued to advance until I picked up a breaker bar and asked them to leave. That worked.
Let me help you out. Which way did you come in?

Usually I just say no thanks and close the door .One day a well dressed young man knocked on the door. He gave me his card. He worked for Edward Jones. He had just opened an office nearby . He said that he wasn't trying to sell me anything , just letting people know he was here and to call if we ever had a need for his services. Thank you , have a nice day . About a year later I dug out his card and made an appointment .It turns out he was a former Army Ranger and had two deployments to the sandbox. We have had some interesting discussions about a lot of things other than money ...

I'd have to 100% disagree. Religion and politics are the biggest sales of all.
