6 months living expenses, an arbitrary limit I set years ago to keep the space requirement under control.

Ha ha, you're right! All of my holdings are from prices under $1k per oz.

1flynDOPace why you say six months what do you mean? Like cash value of silver at six months or you spend 6 months of cash and whatever value of silver that’s what you have?

(Monthly expenses x 6)/spot silver price = ounces on hand
Obviously, it's give or take a little since spot fluctuates.

ptruckHow much space do you have for storage? If it's limited go with the gold, but if space is not a problem, silver is the choice.

You can fit an awful lot of dollars worth of silver in a relatively small space. $100,000 worth of silver will easily fit into 1/2 cubic foot.
I will say it's far easier for a thief to carry $100,000 worth of gold than $100,000 worth of silver.
