Recommendations for a HEPA filter? Login/Join

Mrs. PHPaul is having what we think are dust allergies.

We had a big HEPA filter which helped a lot but it sounded like a friggin' jet engine on afterburners.

Any recommendations for an efficient filter that's also quiet? I'd rather go with 2 (or more) small quiet ones than a big noisy unit.

Be careful when following the masses. Sometimes the M is silent.

Be interesting to see what is suggested, I'm looking at putting one on the whole house system, a HEPA filter then would work when the AC is on, and, no additional noise..

We picked up one of these:

I'm allergic to cats and yet somehow ended up with 3 of them. The third cat was apparently critical mass for me and I was itchy and had trouble breathing all the time. Since we got that filter, my symptoms have been gone.

It has 3 settings. The highest setting moves a lot of air, but it's a dull roar for sure so I only use that when I'm out of earshot. The lowest setting is very quiet- I don't notice it at all if I'm more than a foot or two away from the purifier.

I don't know if the UV light feature is actually useful, but I can turn it on and off so it's not intrusive when I try to sleep.

We've only had it for 4-5 months so I can't speak to durability, but we haven't had to replace the filter yet and the effects have been noticeable enough that I'm happy to have spent the money.

"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford, "it is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards."
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

We purchased the Shark 6 fan Air Purifier in November 2021. Very satisfied.

WE are using a Bissell 400 and we have been happy with it so far.

This is the link to Bissells page however you may be able to find them on Amazon, that is where we buy replacement filters from.

You might consider a Sharp - effective and quiet.

I have one of these but you can consider a current, larger variant.
