I have had since the 70s McIntosh ML1 speakers with the Mac 1900 receiver. Now in a small living room environment, the Macs are too big and do not totally respond at low levels. The Macs are enough speaker for a large room. They do not come alive until cranked up.
So I added a pair of Klipsch Reference 2 way bookshelf several years ago on a second remote hookup. The small speakers produce what the Macs do not at low level volume. And at the same time the Macs produce what the Klipsch are not capable of at any level.
I can have the 4 way Macs and 2 way Klipsch going and it sounds complete. At a higher volume I switch off the Klipsch.

You have good taste there. My home system features an NAD C372 powering a set of PSB Image T45 tower speakers. While not cheap or available at Best Buy I consider my system to be an excellent value for money.

BTW, my HiFi inclination goes back to the early 70's and back then Klipsch speakers were freaking huge cabinet affairs containing some very elaborate folded horn systems. Today's Klipsch speakers are not even a remote descendent of those originals, to me they are just another example of the sea of budget speakers flooding the market.

I've stopped counting.

Even though these lists start and descend in price from the astronomically expensive high end gear they provide an extraordinarily useful resource from extremely-well-qualified-to-judge and objective audio pros. I have been in and around this business for many decades and while I have my own insight, opinions, experience and prejudices I have great respect for these reviews. As a group they are a tour d'force.

Speakers are there as one category among all of the other componentry. Then, generally, scroll downward for the more less exotic and possibly affordable ones. Good hunting, it's a technically very complex topic and simultaneously a frequently argumentative one due to many strongly opinionated musically oriented folk having limited exposure to the vast array of products, both attributes of which these lists overcome.

I subscribed to Stereophile for many many years. But for well over the last decade, to me and many with whom I have high regard, they strayed evermore into subjective hype and apparent brand influence reflective of elitist snobbery. Accordingly I would hardly term their reviews as "tour d'force." These are also the guys who eschew measurements and believe cables and cable risers, among other gizmos, inherently can influence sound. I could go on....

Ad hominem attacks seriously detract from an informed critique. Such usually lead to a Zugzwang for the attacker.

BTW if you have a vintage piece of equipment, or even something a bit newer, and you don't have the owners manual, go to Hi Fi Engine dot com and download/save/print it out as you need.

You can also download/save/print out a Service Manual with diagrams etc. If you can do some minor repairs this is awesome.
