arfmelIt sounds like her tactical error was in not shoplifting from a Walmart in a shitty area.

That reminded me of a conversation I heard while turning in my cap and gown after High School Graduation.
One minority student to 3 others: "They made us slaves so they can pay."
I told her that her own people made them slaves so they're blaming the wrong people.

Lefty SigWhen I lived in Dearborn, MI my wife (now ex) worked at a JCPenny in the Dearborn Town Center while finishing her degree. The organized thieves from Detroit would walk into a store at the mall, grab a whole rack of high dollar items - like Disney branded leather jackets, and run out the door to a waiting car. Not sure if they caught them or not, but that was like 1994.

konata88I’m confused. Let me get this straight.
You stop to scan things but not everything. You pay for some of the items. You get arrested.
But if you just grab items and leave the store, no one bothers you, you don’t get stopped and you don’t get arrested?
How weird. The store should be thanking the person for at least paying for some of the items.

RightwirePeople wonder why I flat refuse to use self check outs, anywhere, for any reason.
I am not an expert cashier. I am not paid to ring up my items. Any mistakes are 100% my fault and I can be criminally charged for it if it costs them, but too bad if it costs me. I think not.
I was in a Home Depot to get a few small items on my way home from a haircut about 8pm. They had people standing around ushering you to the self check out. I asked one of these people standing in front of a normal manned register if they would ring the items up and they said no and pointed me to the self check. I handed them the items, thanked them, and left with nothing. I purchased the items the next day from my local ACE Hardware.

drill sgtthis self checkout system by any of the stores are a way to rip off the employees and customers.... By using the self checkout station that creates one less live employee for each station that they do not have to pay wages and benifits .. Requireing customers to do employee work without training and or compensation such as lower prices for being a employee....But yet they have employees just standing around to unlock the system because it locked up and became not operational ........Also the self scanning people are occupied and not watching the price of each item allowing the computer scanner to scan a different price than what might have been displayed on the shelf display maybe only be a couple of pennies to several dollars different.... that might not be caught at time of scanning.. If caught in time then adjustment can be made on bill... If not then that means somebody is pocketing /stealing overcharges at the cost of the customer.... I have personally refused very loudly to the point that I would use the self checkout when given a price cut / employee discount and a couple of these times left several items to half full buggies and walked out of the store empty handed......If you think that the use of self checkout registers is a good thing then so be it but I do not have to like them or use them..................................... drill sgt.

Exactly. Terrible article. This wasn't an "accident" or a "misunderstanding" it was an intentional act.
There has to be intent for a crime. You aren't gonna get hauled off the the jail if you accidentally miss an item, or the scanner messes up, or something like that. (You are still liable for the difference upon being notified of it, and refusal to pay at that point COULD be interpreted as intent depending or circumstances)
This case, was an intentional act intended to defraud Walmart.

All that could all be true (it isn't) but this is still flat out stealing.
She's a thief.
They caught her.
Walmart's business practices are not a valid reason for a thief.
Besides that, if you don't care for their business practices, you have the option to go elsewhere.
Theft and vandalism are tools of the extreme left, not freedom loving individuals.
When I was in my youth, gas stations were manned by a live person who not only pumped your gas but washed the windshield and might do other minor services. People had the option in most places to pump their own for a lower price or pay up for the employee. Guess what they chose?
We now pump our own, unless you want to live in one of the truly most corrupt states like NJ. I'm not even sure that's still done there.

The Walmart in my area recently eliminated almost all their traditional checkouts and now has about 30 self checkouts in banks of 6 with an employee monitor at each open bank. Every checkout has a camera.

What a BS corporate statement. The only thing they are worried about keeping safe here is their bottom line.

RightwireThe facts of a story are no longer relevant. What is important is the time you stay on the page and are exposed to all of the advertisements. The longer you stay there trying to figure it out, the more ads they can shove in your face.

I believe Oregon does not allow self pumping gas.
And yes, she was stealing, got caught, and should pay.

AglifterWhy on earth would anyone oppose civil demand plus criminal charges?
The shopkeeper is not the one breaking the law.
If “little Johnny” was put to work, he may not have the boredom and time to be a thief - his poor upbringing is the responsibility of the parents.
The lady was a professional - and professional shoplifters do tend to actually get prosecuted- they also steal surprising large amounts.

220-9erGood call, Flashguy. ^^^
NJ claims it is a safety issue, Oregon claims they are protecting small businesses, but neither of these leftist states allows you to drive off without paying.
For anyone that might be curious, here's the story.

Blume9mmSame interesting thing I've noticed about most of the scams where someone wants you to help them get access to a couple million dollars and that money is usually some money that has been stolen or at the very least is not theirs or yours....
