My first DSLR was a Nikon D50, and I equipped it with the 18-200 VR zoom; when I upgraded to a D7000 I put that same lens on it. When the D7000 was damaged and replaced by a D7100 I bought the later VR2 version of that lens for it. I don't use any other lens on my DSLRs and I have been very happy with its performance. (I still have the D50 and older zoom as "backups"--I don't want to be dependent on just one system when I'm on a tour.) It is amazing how well the zoom substitutes for a macro lens, too--I photograph flowers and small objects at 200mm at closest focus distance, and it does pretty well. flashguy Texan by choice, not accident of birth

I bought a Sigma 18-250mm f3.5-6.3 DC MACRO OS HSM for Nikon in 2013 for my D5200 and it's been my walk about lens. Does what I need from Macro to telephoto and is a VR lens. https://www.amazon.com/gp/prod...sc=1#customerReviews Added: I see they now make a 18-300 model for $50 . more. If I were going to replace my current model I'd try this one. https://www.amazon.com/Sigma-1..._product_top?ie=UTF8
