but I thought I'd share this with those of you here who, like me, have worn the uniform and seen the elephant. It was originally written on a scrap of notepaper, and was found in a trench at the site of the El Agheila battlefield in Libya in 1942. His fate is not known. 'Stay with me, God. The night is dark, The night is cold: My little spark Of courage dies. The night is long; Be with me, God, and make me strong.'

Well said. Thank you. RMD TL Davis: “The Second Amendment is special, not because it protects guns, but because its violation signals a government with the intention to oppress its people…” Remember: After the first one, the rest are free.

I talk to God almost every day. I am conviced, that at least on two occasions, He has talked back.

I've had a few conversations with God while under some less than stellar situations when I was a sailor and as a cop.... Thanks, Tac. I faced a fatal illness 17 years ago and the doctors said I probably wouldn't make it. My faith in God gave me courage during that time, but without Him I would have been lost. I can relate to that poem. .

The old quote: There are no Atheist in Foxholes comes to mind. As well as: The dark night of the soul, where you are seeking and not finding.

Yes war is indeed Hell. It is a mystery that religious or not. When confronted by situations beyond our control, the human reaction is to seek help from a Deity/Higher power. Almost seems like we are programed thru ancestral memory. Or perhaps it's just a innate mental jump from a painful stressful situation.

I think "belief in God" is very natural, and almost a "self-evident truth". But, of course there are those who disagree, and a lot of it revolves around the detail of what we think "God" is. It is a looooong way from "Belief in God" to "You must pray this way on this day, say these words, and donate this money to this guy to buy these robes". Having said that, though, sincere people gather together and establish a "way" of attempting to understand God, and then it is called a "religion" and traditions and dogmas develop. "Crom is strong! If I die, I have to go before him, and he will ask me, 'What is the riddle of steel?' If I don't know it, he will cast me out of Valhalla and laugh at me."
