Vietnam War & snake bites
Here's a link to a 2002 article from "OUTSIDE MAGAZINE that describes a bite from a banded krait and what happened after.

“AFTER IT WAS OVER, we’d all wonder why Joe had reached into the snake bag with barely a glance inside.”

And that really says it all about countless venomous snake bites: Doing something foolish for any of many foolish reasons.

That’s of course not true of all of them. Most of the tens of thousands of people who are killed annually by snake bites in India, for example, were no doubt just victims of bad luck due to not being able to reasonably avoid encounters with venomous snakes. Others, though, like the guy who grabbed a snake without even looking at it, or the one who kept—and carelessly handled—incredibly dangerous snakes at home to satisfy his ego and titillate his YouTube fans don’t have that excuse.

* Thanks for the article, but once again I am amazed by how anyone has the patience to regularly read such online pieces. It was literally covered up to 50 percent by highly distracting advertisements that could not be removed. And to think that many viewers are probably using a phone screen rather than a 22" desktop monitor: how do you manage it?

Ad blockers. They probably don't even see the ads at all.

It's basically a must for reading online articles in today's day and age.

Thanks. Ad blockers did occur to me, but if it’s so easy, why the practice at all? All the ads do for someone like me who isn’t about to bother with trying to find a way to block them is to ensure I’ll never visit that site again, and certainly not pay for a subscription. But then I’m not a captain of modern business and so what do I know? I am mostly retired and on a snowy, 8° day like this morning I have the choice between scrubbing the kitchen floor or spending time on the ’net so I watched (some of) the video despite the ads, but what about everyone else?

Anyway, back to snakes: I do find them to be fascinating creatures even if one of them long ago was responsible for my sinful nature today.
How many people can say they’ve had the experience of being bitten by one?
