Thanks Sdy,

It is a testament to the fact that we do not need those who think they have all the answers for the rest of us. We just need ourselves. Teach your children.

on a smaller scale... similar boat captains stepped up when Sully had to put the airplane down in the river after the double bird-strike

very cool to see -- gives you hope that not all is lost

Some good quotes in that video.

"Never go through life saying 'I should have'".

"There's a little bit of hero in everyone."

Thus the metric system did not really catch on in the States, unless you count the increasing popularity of the nine-millimeter bullet.

The American people will always rise to the challenge.

A few months back I was reading about a fire department which had purchased a heavy wrecker. A person posed the question, and I'm paraphrasing, "Who would you rather run this equipment when your life depended on it. A highly trained fire fighter, or some tow truck driving Bubba?"

I replied I'd rather have the Bubba who works that equipment every day vs. somebody that attended an instructional class. America is full of Bubbas.

Yup, I was a midshipmen at the Academy at Kings Point during that time. Many midshipmen and our vessels were a part of that. One of the most memorable times of my life.
