Any residential HVAC guys on board?
I'm wondering what a ball park cost would be to install a three zone mini split A/C.

Zones would be (2) 6,000 and one 12,000. They would be gable mounted as structure is a log cabin and gables are stick built. Total sq footage is about 700.

I really don't need a heat pump as I have heat sources already and I figure if the indoor units are mounted high on the wall since, if I recall correctly heat rises, I would gain nothing by having heat pumps.

Do they make A/C units only? Most I have seen are HP. Would an A/C only cost less?

Best regards,

Tom

I have no comment at this time.

Pricing with be all over the place depending on location (TN), installation requirements, manufacture, installers craftsmanship, etc.

Call around, have companies come out to the site and get a few quotes. Mitsubishi is the mini-split leader, however, they are not inexpensive.

The cost of a cooling only unit is not any different than the heat pump version. But with the heat pump, it can use the heat to defrost an iced coil. The cooling only I believe just stops the compressor until it defrosts.

The heating ability is sort of "thrown in". There have been leaps and bounds of change in the past two decades. Last stats I saw, (fancy word alert) unitary systems are only 10% of worldwide installs, most of the in the USA.

$8,000 M&L, is a decent ballpark.

They make window or sleeve mounted heat pump air conditioners. But if you don't need heat up there why a heat pump at all?
