Is it time yet to buy certain stocks?
I am thinking that it may be time to buy some stock in the market while it is low.

Any recommendations?

Boeing is trading at less that 180$ now.

I don't think we have found the bottom yet. Everything decent is trading at a bargain price. But - - it may go lower.

Yea, I'm patiently waiting and watching. The volatility is just a symptom. I'm keeping an eye on the cause and plan to start buying when I see the media hysteria die out.

Ford ... but maybe not yet

My concern with Ford is the effect of potentially needing to cut their dividend. At $5.33 a share, they are paying a $0.60 dividend. This is over 10.17%. It is Crazy and can't continue. Plus, their earnings per share has been $0.0314. The math doesn't work. F is at a 52 week low and less than half of its 52 week high.

I dumped mine 2 weeks ago.

Boeing has issues that go well beyond Covid-19. That being said, if you're willing to wait a few years for a profit, it's probably worthwhile.

Friend of mine works at GenMark (NASDAQ GNMK), making COVID-19 diagnostic kits being distributed.

If they get FDA approval...some real fun will begin.

My first thought too - Boeing - especially if you're in it for the long haul...

Apple my get a lot of advertisement for being the most expensive company but as I recall, Boeing was (a couple years ago, before the 737 fiasco) the biggest company with regards to $$ spent in the US and exported.

I’m not going to buy any Boeing as there are many more attractive opportunities.

My number one recommendation would be Apple followed by Microsoft.

Some industrials are looking good, but I am looking at dividend stocks (utilities in particular) as good investments.

My advice (worth every dollar you paid for it) is to keep your power dry.

Most investors are ill-advised to try single stock buys, even in charted waters. Now?

Well, I advise against going to Las Vegas with money one cannot afford to set a match to. Yet, casinos do land-office business, anyway. So, opinions differ. Wink

I will give the same advice now, about trying to 'buy a dip'. Speculate away, if you have some risk capital and won't miss it, but going on a shopping spree now is not investing.

If I had a scheduled buy on a low-cost index fund to balance a portfolio, yeah, I would consider letting that go forward. But trying to call a bottom on a particular stock, in a market like this, and buying a bunch? Good luck to you.

I swore I wasn't going to buy any more stocks today. But then Marathon Petroleum MPC was down 25% today when I bought some more. MPC is down 62% so far this year. I like Valero VLO and Phillips 66 PSX, too.

The refiners have been thrown out with the oil producers, undeservedly I think.

MPC has a P/E under 7 and yields over 10%.

do you have a time horizon for this money of 5+ years?

do you have adequate cash to cover 6 months worth of living expenses (emergency fund)?

if yes - there are lots of things to take a look at long term.

if No. I would not recommend the stock market at this time. There will be a lot of volatility as the impact of this virus gets sorted out.

my answer is yes.

I have moved additional $$ into various index funds and ETFs. Primarily VTI and VEXAX

bought additional F, GE, JNJ, XOM, RDS-B. Looking hard at RCL.

I can't imagine in a couple years looking back and not being glad I did. (Even if Creepy Joe gets elected...)

Is Boeing a good bet though? I know they hit almost 400 a few years ago but they've only been above 300 for a couple years.

good question. For them it's like a triple whammy.

1. Their resolution to the issues with the 737 Max is not clearly defined. Big impact on future and pending orders.

2. They have a new CEO and there are the usual question marks around leadership changes.

3. The impact of Corona virus.

what is your time horizon for that investment ?
