But did he blouse his boots and have the proper curve in his cap?

I couldn't resist posting the Gecko45 story earlier, such a classic.

As far as me, was I or am I tacticool? No.

I admit, back in my late teens, when on our property up north I was often ween in cammie pants. Mostly because cargo pants weren't really around yet and I liked the thigh pockets. That is about as far as it went with me and it didn't last once the canvas cargo pants with the zip off legs appeared.

If I'm headed to the range cargo pants or jeans and whatever is comfy. I do have to laugh a bit inside at the guys that show up in $2000 in tactical wear and drag out a beat up POS $200 AK that is held together with duct tape.

I did get in a little trouble at a local range for a 'tacticool' thing I did Big Grin The guy on the bench next to me spent more time cleaning/adjusting/fiddling/being annoying than shooting. I was getting in a little practice before a 100yd match so I needed to focus on a few mechanics. I had a towel with me and draped it over my head to block out his movements. Someone asked why while down range. When I showed up a few weeks later the the range officer jokingly asked me to stop doing shit like that because the next week half the people shooting had towels draped over their heads Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

I don't think this counts but I carry a smallish
E.d.c. shoulder bag that's o.d. green.

About the size of a gallon jug .
So that doesn't count.
I don't think.

But it has Mollie webbing on it so. . . .
Maybe.

But I only carry it about 1/3 of the time while in the big city.
They didn't have denim or navy blue.

Should I have gotten the black ?

Same here. At 85 I'm not likely to change. I do wear black relaxed-fit Wrangler jeans, though.

Never have been and never will be. I do have a Glock shirt that says Glock going down both sleeves and I have had more compliments on that shirt than the rest of my wardrobe combined.

I’m not sure if that says something about my wardrobe or there are a lot of gun fans who like seeing gun apparel out an about.

Short hair because desert. No beard because CPAP. Keen hikers because they fit my duck feet. Jeans, t-shirt, hoodie. No gun brands, ever. No tactical brands, ever. In fact, most of what I have that has logos on them are guitar related.

I do have the plate carrier, belt and helmet at home because, well, I lived just outside Seattle for the festivities of 2020 and 2021. All you “been there and done that” types can laugh, but I figured at the very least, I should own what I saw the better-equipped “protestors” wearing once they started heading into the suburbs in Portland. Now if I say I don’t train in it, that’s laughable, and if I say I do drills in it, that’s laughable also, so I guess just pick whichever makes you laugh hardest, and that’s what I do.

I like to stay a solid 10 years behind. I don't need what Delta needs. Plus, not too many messes in my daily existence I couldn't clean up with a basic m4, 1 mag, and jeans..... 1 handed even.

Cool

It's one thing to be prepared and have the tools to fit the skills you're looking to develop and maintain. I think in this day and age of performative outrage protests that whip-up the crazies, the social justice demonstrations and the pro-crime DA's, if you're within 2-hours of any urban metro areas, you should have a basic set-up to carry a handful of magazines and other essentials.

It's quite another, and some poster here are loosing a bit perspective, where you see THAT GUY who is obnoxiously dressed-out....every bag/pack has MOLLE webbing all over it made by brands that have no idea why they're putting it on there but they know the gullible will buy it, the latest desert boots, every EDC knife and light has a paracord braided do-dad, firearm-tactical branded hat/t-shirt, a rigger belt sporting the latest buckle type, their vehicle has an equal number of stickers adorned. You get it, it's those types that just over-do-it, and end up standing out instead of blending in.

Amen to that. Budget friendly and you dodge the beta testing. I'm not smart enough to know what the latest gear might or might not do, so best to let the grown ups sort that out.

Also, cool flew out the window a long time ago, along with pride. Big Grin

Yeah, that's what I try hard to avoid. I have some Bates steel toe boots I got for $20 used at Goodwill that just happened to have that perfect magic fit. I got them because work mandated steel toes, and since I was standing or walking on concrete floors all day, the added support was nice. However, those boots, paired with being clean cut and polite got me all kinds of attention that made me uncomfortable. I have been thanked for my service by total strangers in public on the way to or from work at least three times I can think of, and so they don't get worn anymore. I'm not working in a machine shop anymore, so it's hikers or the Middle Aged White Dad Standard: New Balance

That is what we refer to as the volunteer fireman of the firearms community.

Extra points if the holster is an Uncle Mikes nylon sporting holster with strap.
