USPS return address and anonymous secret santa mailings
Question. If you print your own labels, and paste over the return address so the recipient does not know the who the sender is until they open it, could there be a delay in shipping?

Just a guess. I would think the only circumstance where they would care about the return address would be if the package has to be returned.

That's what I was thinking, and since it's a USPS bar coded label, the return address is in the system and (I would think) the display being covered wouldn't matter.

Nothing dictates you must put a return address on a piece of mail.

The return address isn't a requirment for shipping.

If the recipient's address isn't correct, there will ne no chance of correction. For example, if they have moved and forwarding has expired or if it is delivered tk the wrong address. Were someone to write "return to sender," the item would go into the dead letter file.

The return address gives the other end a chance for a do over.

It also allows the recipient to update their records.

If you know the address is right and the post office will deliver correctly, leave it off. Don't be angered if it goes wrong though.
