I Am The Walrus
posted
I've been improving my diet and trying to start each day right with a smoothie.

So far, I've been pretty simple with mine: banana, strawberries or blue berries, yogurt, milk.

What do you like in yours?

Frozen banana
Scoop of collagen protein powder
Tablespoon of ground peanuts
Teaspoon of cocoa powder
Hand full of ice cubes
Almond milk

Play around with the amount of each ingredient to adjust for taste and consistency. I like it to be thick like a milk shake so I go easy on the soy milk for example.

We make a number of smoothies, but the current mainstay is this:

- avocado
- banana
- frozen strawberries
- frozen blueberries
- wheat bran
- almond butter
- almond milk

Usually do 1 whole avocado and 1 whole banana, then tweak the rest to taste, but around 1 C blueberries. If you use almond butter, though, you might want to add a sweetener like agave nectar or honey, because, while it thickens the smoothie nicely, it sort of dulls down the other tastes. The avocado is the real key though and makes it super smooth.

sometimes a little touch of powdered cinnamon or nutmeg on top to spice up whatever's in the mix below, even now & then a small touch of flake B vitamin/brewer's yeast for flavor nuances.

That is a good blended recipe that I use from time to time. Tastes like pumpkin pie.

I also like:
Oats
Banana
Peanut Butter
Skim/Almond Milk
Vanilla Protein Powder
Cinnamon

and

Applesauce
Cinnamon
Nutmeg
Allspice
Vanilla Protein Powder
Skim/Almond Milk
Oats

But honestly, my typical one is usually pretty boring, consisting of a scoop of whey protein, a cup of coffee, and some skim or almond milk, shaken up in a blender bottle. It's just a caffeine and protein delivery mechanism, for mornings when I'm in a hurry and don't have time to prepare a more substantial breakfast.
