xantomMerrell's for me. I like to wear shoes in my house and could never find slippers that would last or were water proof enough to step outside quick and not have wet socks. I also have wide feet. I wear Junlge Moc's around the house. I have a few other pairs of Merrell's for outdoors, dress, and casual.

1s1kHas anyone tried Altar shoes. I get quite a few ads for them and they advertise a larger toe box so I was curious if anyone has tried them and agreed they have a larger toe box since I wear a 14.

GustoferJungle Mocs year 'round everyday shoes. Sorel packs or Danner hiking boots when needed and Crocs for work.
I usually get two years out of the Merrells. My Sorels are 40 years old this year. Danners going on 30 years, and the Crocs I've had for 16 years. Yeah, I don't spend a lot on shoes.

RightwireFor casual shoes I can say I tried my first pair of Skechers and never looked back. They are amazingly light and comfortable. They have expanded into work shoes/boots, safety shoes, etc. I tried on a pair of safety shoes, I was impressed. If I needed a pair I would have bought them.
Nothing but Merrell for hiking boots for me. Again, tried my first pair about 10 years ago and it's all I will buy.
I did find some amazing water shoes by World Wide Sportsman. Had been looking for something like this forever. I ended up buying 2 pair of different styles. Great for being around the water, a boat, kayak, etc. Available at Bass Pro Shops

ChachDaily - Red Wing Iron Rangers
Dress up - Allen Edmonds
Casual - Vans
Work - Nicks Custom Boots.
One thing I learned too late in life was pay more for the best footwear. If you're looking for a good heavy duty work boot, go Nicks or Whites and never look back.

Anyhow here's the thread. I am likely buying the Brooks black walking sneakers posted.

Curious if you found something that works good for you. If not, take a look at the Reebok line. Their walking shoes are excellent.
I have the Brooks in my cart but I will look at Reebok before I pull the trigger. I'm going on vacation so my ordering will have to wait about 1.5 weeks.
Update: Got the Brooks. Color/style are perfect. Fit seems great. Will see how they last compared to the New Balance. They were pricey at $130. But if they last it will be worth it.
These go to eleven.

Ryanp225Merrell or Solomon.
I wear low top hiking shoes in the warm weather and mid height in the cooler weather.

BytesFoot Joy for golf, Under Armour for workout and walking, Florsheim for dress. Oh, my Florsheim's are older than dirt. I don't need to dress up much more.

Oddly enough, those are the two brands that I have settled on, mostly because they fit my narrow feet the best. The reason for responding though is “see how long they last.” It was my brother who got me to look at running and walking shoes differently with respect to their lifespan. Anymore, walking is my primary form of exercise, and unless the weather is pretty bad, I do it everyday. My brother states that athletic shoes that are used regularly break down on the inside and should be replaced yearly. I have a pair of Brooks and they might be the same model that you just bought, I think they cost about $130. I’ve probably had them for a bit over a year, but the last week or more they just haven’t felt as good behind my toes. All I feel when I put my hand inside is that the insole has begun to conform to my foot. I have a pair of NB that I bought a few months later, mostly for knock-around shoes. I started wearing them to walk. I don’t think they’re as good as the Brooks, especially for heel cushion, but they feel better. Mind you, if you looked at the Brooks shoes you’d say, they still look really good.
All that to say, I don’t know what factors you use to determine a running shoe’s durability, but you might want to use a calendar if you wear them a lot. FWIW
