When I lived in the East it was Timberland and Rockports but that was 17 years ago. Today I live exclusively in Keen H2 sandals and Merrel Jungle Mocs. I have a few pair of hiking shoes but rarely wear them, Merrel and La Sportiva.

Being made in Italy, they may be stamped as their corresponding European size.

Approximately 1 size smaller than sizes in the US. Sizes were specified with different systems of measurement.

They also may be a 45 1/2 stamped on them somewhere. Wink

I live around the mountains so do a little casual hiking and a lot of walking. Our lifestyle and dress is much more casual than when we lived in suburbia and that a great thing.
For actual hiking, Asolo or Merrill.

Everyday, walking and work I've been wearing Keens like these. They also come in a higher top version with more ankle support.

In everything I wear, I replace the innersoles with Powerstep Pinnacle Maxx and they are so much better than what comes in even expensive brand footwear.
https://www.amazon.com/Powerst...0045E5KB6?th=1&psc=1
I buy the shoes a half size larger than before to allow a bit more room for the slightly thicker insole.
My knees started to bother me about 8-10 years ago from walking on hard surfaces all my life plus general age related issues and these have made all the difference.

Since I’ve retired, I find myself expanding and finding other footwear..I have a pair of Blundstone for winter and I usually wear topsiders or flipflops everywhere

My maternal grandmother told me once “always buy the best shoes you can afford” when I was a little boy. After dragging across this earth for half a century, I understand. What broke me? GI issued dress uniform shoes…they are the worst, most uncomfortable bastards! I have one pair of dress shoes for funerals and I got them at the mens warehouse, soft and comfortable pliable black leather shoes…
I have the blue and white top siders..

Look harder. Lots of brands are available in wide widths these days.

I have pretty wide feet, wearing a 4E in most brands, and occasionally a 2E in some generously sized brands. When I was younger, there was initially basically nothing easily available in Wide, and then really only a couple brands like Asics and New Balance in the 1990s. But over the past two decades, many/most companies have started offering wide widths.

Most shoe brands nowadays offer at least a few models in up to 2E (Wide), with many offering up to 4E (Extra Wide), a few offering up to 6E, and even some offering all the way up to 9E (Eek!).

For example, a quick look at Zappos shows 2585 total different models of men's wide width shoes in stock in all styles, from many dozens of different manufacturers. If you filter by just "Casual Shoes", there's still 959 different models from a multitude of different brands.

Allen Edmond for dress shoes.

I have not worn them since working from home.

Sperry or Timberland for dock shoes 80% of the time.

Mostly Sperry now with their 3 eyelet boat shoe.

New Balance for sneaker-type shoes.

Fry boots for non-snow when it gets cold.

LL Bean or UGS or Sorrels for snow season.
