sandman76Sir, Can I Use Your Hotspot?
I would have had to tell him this. No, because I have no real idea what that is.
Could anyone in this thread tell me. Obviously something to do with connecting to the internet, Do I even have that on my iPhone?

I declined, and he went to the next parent with kids, I assume making the same request.
Was this an innocent request, or is there some scam associated with this?
All I could think of is if he downloaded or uploaded some illegal images then it would trace back to me.
but is there more to it???? If it's a scam I'm unfamiliar with it. I don't think he can get personal info off my phone with this method, but I have no idea.
I like to help people out, but something just didn't feel right about it. Maybe it was his demeanor, but alarms were starting to go off in my head. The tough looking teens normally avoid me.
Most likely? He just didn't have service and needed some.
Pretty much any modern phone can access everything with wifi access. Either this person didn't have phone service, yet had a physical device, or his service was shut off for non payment, or he was feuding with his baby mama who pays the bill, his parents that pay the bill, or WHOEVER pays the bill and wanted to use his phone.
97% harmless most likely, just someone who can't wanting a favor from someone who can.
That said, I wouldn't have allowed it either.

Basically it’s sharing your data with the other person. Or it allows them to link to the internet thru your IPhone. Yes you have the ability to make your phone a “hotspot”. But I wouldn’t do it.

I like that one... maybe even offered it to them with that comment and see what they do... but then they might just be dum enough to use it anyway....
I suspect they just saw several hot spots available and were randomly asking... I know my phone shows what ever wireless system is nearby... even TVs and GPS's and such.
