So why is the USSS checking out my profile on LinkedIn?
I haven’t applied to the federal government for a job and I haven’t made a political comment online or in a public setting in nearly a decade because of my current job. Nor have I threatened anyone. Finally, I haven’t updated my profile since 2014 or earlier so it is woefully out of date.

Is this common if you work for a state agency and have an upper managerial type position?

Someone you know needs a clearance and they are running a background on him/her?

If they are looking for potential candidates for a position and anything in your profile was a match for the criteria they entered you would come up in their pool of candidates. They could potential click on your profile to determine if you are a match. No different than any other potential employer look8 for talent. I get about 10 hits a week on my profile but I don’t pay for premium service on LinkedIn so I have no idea who was looking.

And they may have an interest in someone who has the same name as you. LinkedIn hits are common when you are doing internet searches on someone.

I got a look from them on LinkedIn as well. About two weeks ago. I am colleagues with a couple of gentlemen that used to work at the Pentagon and have, I’m sure, pretty high security clearance. I figured that was the cause.

After mobilizations the members of our unit all got looked into by various overburdened agencies and it went on for 6 months as they caught up. People I hadn't talked to in years would see me in a store to tell the story - before we left.

Then I heard stories in email, letters or online - even in 2002.

BTW, some are pulling their old Linkedin accounts for various reasons. One is that its simply not all that anymore. Networking has gone past that.

I believe a FOIA request is in order. Dear USSS. Please provide me a complete and full set of information the USSS has collected on me. As a law enforcement agency, the USSS must comply with the US Constitution, specifically the 4th amendment. In addition, the USSS must have civilian judicial permission to search my person, my premises, and my personal information. Sincerely, BB61.

Except when you post it on a publicly accessible and searchable website such as:

Linkedin, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Sigforum etc etc.

and all you are looking at is the public and visible information.

No warrant required.

If you don't want strangers looking at your stuff, either don't post it, or restrict the audience.
