We harvested some olives today from the neighbor of my sister. 13 trees in a row, some have zero fruit, some have lots of fruit, some have a metric crapton of fruit. Of the ones that have fruit, some are mostly green while the tree next to it may be mostly ripe. All the fruit is on the small size, but the trees appear “unmanaged”. They don’t appear to have seen pruning shears in years and the fruit was certainly not thinned out when it was freshly formed, so that would explain the small size. For reference, I grabbed a handful (20 individual olives) and all together they weighed 20 grams.

I just spent some time washing the smaller bucket, I think about a gallon. I’m realizing I’m going to have to come up with some way to “pre wash” all the leaves and dry matter away before a water wash…. 5 gallons worth of cleaning will be a bit of a task in my kitchen sink. I’m thinking about setting my leave blower up somewhere and pouring the bucket out from one bucket to another, in hopes the fruit falls through but the leaves and various non-olive containments get blown away.
