Two flaws with your plan Mr. Sanders 1) There is a segment of the population due to laziness or greed driving street enterprise (crime) who have no intent to work 2) Who the HELL is going pay for all of these government jobs? I am sure as hell not giving up 50%+ of my hard earned income so someone can make $15/hr in a government job doing little or nothing. Yeah, my Step-father had a guaranteed job in communist Hungary in the 50’s. One month he worked his ass off in a foundry and made a decent wage. The next month the GDC’s cut his pay in half for the same amount of work, saying he made too much money. Not long after he escaped to America.

If the GDC’s become the majority they take over. When the GDC’s take over, they cause irreparable damage. Socialism causes a downward spiral it's impossible to escape. Look at Venezuela. The way I see it we have a choice, and it's not an easy one: 1. Eliminate public education and welfare. or... 2. Slowly surrender to the socialists. The socialist schools are indoctrinating our young to socialism. Where will we escape to? "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

Well, it sounds great, superficially. Of course, superficial thinking is all many are capable of. Where do the jobs come from? In other words, what will they do? Will there be five people sweeping up at the Lincoln monument at all times? Make-work jobs aren't productive and won't help the problem, to the extent there is one. (See my last point.) Where will the money come from? How will the "workers" be incentivized to perform at a reasonable level of acheivement? Maybe most importantly, most economists think that there is a "natural" level of unemployment. U.S. unemployment is about 4.1% right now, which isn't far off that "natural" level. This indicates that there simply are no jobs that need to be done, or for which there are workers free to do them. Some segments of the population have higher levels of unemployment, but the overall level of unemployment indicates we, as a whole, are at about the level any economy runs at. Where do I sign up? I want to head some quiet NGO bureaucracy dedicated to seeing whether the melting point of ice has been affected by global warming. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Years ago (before the fall of the wall & all that) I had a Romanian guy work for me who'd escaped his homeland. He had a harrowing tale to tell of how he'd made it to the west. The thing he said to me that stuck out the most was that back home, "They pretend to pay us & we pretend to work." Those that were so inclined didn't want communist (government) jobs, they wanted self-determination. The others wanted to skate along. The latter are what we're talking about in Bern's dumbtopian view. "We're all travelers in this world. From the sweet grass to the packing house. Birth 'til death. We travel between the eternities."

You get it... and I get it... but how do we get the young hipsters to get it? "Some things are apparent. So this program will be for Americans, not just anybody who happens to be in America? How will someone prove he is an American, birth certificate or photo ID? Just like they say for voting, the dems will cry "worker intimidation" if citizenship must be verified. So anyone who claims to be a citizen gets a job. Continuing the voting analogy, why stop with one job? ... stirred anti-clockwise.

My Step-father is 80 and is scared for our future. He has been seeing the incrementalism of the Left and it pisses him off. He has a very storied past, his life during WWII, German occupation, then the Russians and the Red Chinese. He has been shot and tore the bullets from his wrist and knee with his teeth, did not dare go to the hospital. Has killed to protect himself. Was the last to get on the plane to America as a refugee. Almost died on the ride over, plane went into a storm, was hit by lightening three times and lost three of the four engines. I’m thinking of writing a book about his life.
