Watching movies, listening to music, no gaming. Nothing too expensive. A USB connection is fine.

The laptop remains mostly in the house but might get moved around, sometimes to less than ideal surfaces, so I wouldn't want any speakers too large.

I've had 2 Logitech systems that have worked very well for me. They have a lot of options to compare.

That's a good question. I used KRK V4 studio monitors through a USB interface on my iMac until I had to tear up my setup to work at home with with my company issued crap.

For portability, though I dislike Bose in general, their Bluetooth Soundlink Mini Speaker is very good.

USB only speakers would work, are cheap, are small but don't sound all that great.
With a little work a BT speaker would be better and can be semi-cheap to expensive.
BT headphones or earbuds albeit not the same would cost more than USB, sound pretty good and might be a good alternative.

I prefer Bose, preferably purchased at a local thrift store for maximum value. I always buy Logitech for work computers.

I have both the Oontz and Pebble speakers, am happy with both.

I think for best experience two Oontz would be the way to go and also give you more options for usability. Plus BT is more convenient for moving around than dealing with cords.

I've moved to bluetooth headphones as I'm sharing the room where the laptop is when I need to listen to the laptop.

However, I picked this Anker Bluetooth Speaker when I still hade my own room to myself and it sounds pretty good to me. It's 25 Watts with Enhanced Bass and High Definition Sound, 18-Hour playtime, water resistant, and portable. It charges via USB.

I've used it exactly for the purpose of watching movies and listening to music.

It'll be my pleasure to send it to you. I also have the owners manual I can email to you.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Good morning Para,

I’ve been using this Bose speaker for years.

I like it because of the sound quality and I have the option of being direct connected or Bluetooth if I want to take it with me for whatever reason.

Typically I just leave it on my desk under my monitor plugged into power, but the battery on it will last for hours.

Bose Soundlink mini 2

I’ve seen them as low as $175 at Costco from time-to-time.
