A man's got to know
his limitations

Something very strange happened with my iPhone 8 last night as I was out. I keep the phone in my pocket and suddenly it started playing music I didn't recognize. When I pulled it out the screen had a picture of food on it that I recognized with a message to turn on wifi or cellular data. I just closed it out, put it back in my pocket till I could get home. When I checked it out later it seems that a smart album had been created with instrumental music I did not have and pictures of food I did have in my phone. I did not create such a thing, don't even know how. I don't leave wi-fi on or use iCloud. It has the latest update and the only thing different yesterday was I rebooted it. Have I been hacked or is this some kind of AI thing going on?
Any help is appreciated, it has me baffled.

The Photos app -> For You button at the bottom will make those. You must have just butt selected it.

The WiFi/cellular thing is because it wanted to access cloud based photos but you have cellular turned off for the photos app.

Nothing to worry about.

Thanks for the input mark. I just don't see how it happened, I carry in my front pocket, the screen is locked unless I open it with touch id, go to photos and hit the For you button. And where did the text and music come from? Very weird but not impossible.

if you swipe right from your Home Screen you may see a panel of the photo app that made more of those photo collage videos. My iPhone does all sorts of weird things when I put it in my pocket. I wish it had a cover for the screen so that wouldn’t happen.

I carry my Ram pickup key FOB in my front pocket. It requires you to press the button TWICE to activate the remote start and the tailgate release. I have done both while carrying in my front pocket.

Thanks guys. Glad I don't have anything to worry about. Damn smart phones.

I had an 8 and now a 12+ and I've had similar strange things happen during hot weather like we're having now.
Mine is also in my front shirt pocket, screen towards my body (I don't used a screen protector, just minimal case) and when I'm kind of moist with sweat, including the shirt, it seems to act like I'm pressing things.
I can only guess that the perspiration in the shirt against both my body and the screen makes contact and the touch screen reads that as various inputs.
Turn it around in your pocket and it seems much better but still not perfect. In my case a bigger problem is contacting the little flashlight icon and turning that on unintentionally.
I carry it in my front pocket year around and hot days are the only time I have this problem.

Yes, I’ve noticed that the phone does things like that more often in hot, sweaty weather.

I never carry a phone in a "normal" pocket. Sometimes a cargo pocket, but I usually use one of these:

They are made in the U.S., great quality, very convenient. If one of their many pre-defined sizes is not right for your phone with whatever protective case you're using, they will custom make the holster to your exact measurements at no extra charge.

I have been using mine for several years. It does a great job. Highly recommend!

It all makes sense to me now. With hot weather here, I have been wearing my 5.11 shorts and they have thin pockets. They are older and the front outside pockets are too narrow for my phone so it goes in the front with screen facing in to protect it against blows when I am working. Never had this problem with other pants or jeans.

I carry my iPhone in a cargo pocket and every once in a while I pull it out and find it's open to the camera area. Obviously something pushes on the camera icon in the bottom right corner and activates the camera.

Pretty much what happened to the OP.

First thing that came to me was that it might be a 'push' message, from a merchant using that technology. Were you near a restaurant called Tasty Bites by chance?

Be sure your phone setting to receive push messages is set to off. Not many merchants use push, because nobody wants that crap sent to their phones, but there are some stores out there that use it.

There are things to still be said for flip phones....

No, I don't have one anymore but randomly call folks at times when putting it in my pocket. I had a "case" that closed like a book cover over the screen on my previous iPhone, may get one again.

Yep. I've had something like that happen. One time, when we were staying in someone's house, I started hearing water coming from somewhere. The owner came over to where I was and started hearing it too. I started to follow where I think the sound is coming from. The woman said, "Rey, it's coming from your pocket."

Yeah, it was the rain sound that I listen to to get to sleep.

Lately, and I think this is worse, is I pull my phone out of my pocket and it's on edit mode where one more click and apps would be deleted. I try to remember to blank the screen before putting it in my pocket but I usually forget.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.
