This is oddly unsettling: Young woman has prosthetic Tentacle arm.
I suppose the science behind it is cool, and I can appreciate her stated reason for the choice, but I've no interest in seeing hybrid humans of this sort in everyday life. Leave that and similar Doctor Octopus or Swamp Thing creatures for the comics and movies, thanks:

I've seen a prosthetic arm/hand that was very impressive. The man could do almost anything a normal person could do. Pick up a drink, hold things, etc.

That tentacle didn't do anything practical in that vid, nor the article imply it could be used for anything. If she likes it for art, so be it, it's her life and her money.

My kids wouldn't sleep for weeks if they saw her on the street though. Heck, I'm kinda creeped out by it.

Well, we're not actually discussing the average person here, are we?

Doesn't seem very useful or practical at all.

I get that she isn't going for that, she wants the shock value, but seems like it wouldn't help her quality of life much

I like it from the experimental and "dress-up" standpoints. It certainly looks cool for a one-off Poison Ivy-style costume, and has a neat internal design with the multi-segmented "vertebrae".

But I agree that it seems pretty impractical for everyday use as a prosthetic arm.

It is a vine, not a tentacle, or so the link implies.

You wanna impress me? Make it look like an octopus tentacle, complete with suckers that can suction-grip. Or maybe an elephant trunk that can squirt water.

If you look at the credits, it says "Modeled by".

I'm thinking it is a conceptual art item.

UPDATE: I looked at the source link - model was born without a lower arm. This is a prosthetic. Like the advanced hand models, but with a tentacle instead. I'm wondering what ADA rules would be impacted by her non-traditional desire to use it.

It´s real and state of the art techology. It´s coming from Festo Bionics in Germany and used in robotics.
