Whiteface Ford’s YouTube Channel has me shopping for a new Super Duty
This fella at Whiteface Ford in Texas has one of the best YouTube channels out there. Videos are short and too the point and very enjoyable to watch. In no way do I need a Super Duty and I really have zero reason to get a new truck. I like my Tubdra just fine. But I ran across this video in particular and was really curious. I can outfit a 2025 F250 Super Duty XL with the offroad package and a couple of add ons that I like and be around $56k sticker price. 6.8L, 4x4, 3.73s with electronic locking rear differential, keyless entry pad, HD alternator, and 400w power port.
I priced out an F150 with similar options that does not have the offroad package, so no 33” tires, no locking diff, no skid plates, no HD alternator, no 400w power port and it’s about $54k.

I traded my Tundra in on a 2024 F250XL with everything you mentioned except the lined-out bits and it was just over $50K with extended warranty.
I like everything about it except the gas mileage and even that isn't bad considering the motor.

What are you seeing for mileage? I get 11 around town and 13 on the highway currently in the Tundra. So I am guessing similar.

I have similar set up in a 2001 F-250 XL, FX4 off road pkg, snow plow prep pkg, but with 7.3L and 3.55 electronic locking axle. I drove back from Cape Girardeau yesterday evening and averaged right at 16 mpg. Full tank and empty load. Make sure to test drive the ride, this thing needs about 3-400 lbs in the bed to have a halfway decent ride.

Is the 6.8 is a gas motor ? I can't imagine for that price you'd get the diesel.

Yep, 6.8L gas.
I’ve looked at a few and for some reason you can’t get the 7.3L gas with this particular off-road package and trim.
I think with the diesel you can still be under $60k.

Mine is a 2025 F350 crew SB XLT package with the 7.3 Godzilla motor. It did not have that tire package or skid plate package. But did come with a snow plow camper package and dual batteries and high out put alt. and a few other things. Two things I wished it had was the sliding rear window and the tail gate step. Price was $57k. I would do the F350 vs F250. I am glad I did. A solid truck.

If I did get one I would almost certainly be doing the Carli Pathfinder shocks.

Exactly what I am looking for. I don’t need all the upgraded packages. The XL offroad package is about it and a steal at $996 to add bigger offroad tires, an electronic locking rear differential, extended breathers, and skid plates.

Why the 350 over the 250?
I don’t tow anything that I actually need a Super Duty for. Just came across that video and for only $3000 more over a lesser equipped F150.

Best of 15, cruising empty in Eco mode about 14, towing around 11.

It’s about payload. For a few hundred dollars, you get about 1,500 pounds more payload. That increase is about the total payload of a typical F150. An F150 will haul the wife, kids, dog, fuel, and gear. But, tow a 5,000 pound boat and trailer and you’ve got an additional 500+ pounds against an F150’s payload. So you step up to the F250 with 3,000-3,500 pounds of payload and you are golden. Buy a bigger boat or large travel trailer and now you are pushing the limits again. Had you paid the few hundred dollars for the F350 in the first place, you wouldn’t be thinking about a new truck again.
The negative is that some states and insurance companies look at vehicles with a GVWR over about 10,000 pounds differently and charge more for licensing and insurance. I say about because the wording varies by state. In some it’s over 10,000 pounds, under 10,000 pounds, and think even 9,900 pounds in a few. That’s why you’ll find goofball payload package numbers when you build an F250.
Tire choices are more limited with the F350. There’s only a few sizes that hold enough air to carry the load.
You say you are not going to tow, but you are willing to spend $3,000 extra for something you think you aren’t going to use, what’s another couple hundred bucks?

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Good points. Had not priced the F350 did not know there was that slim of a difference.

I orig. bought an F250 supercab. It ended up with some issues that could not be resolved so with Fords help the dealership was willing to replace it. They did not have another like it so they did have this one and once all the hoopla got handled we negotiated this truck. As it ended up the crew cab shortbox was a good outcome. The cab configuration the wife liked much better. I wanted an 8' box but was willing to compromise to the short box. I can tell the F350 is bigger, sits higher. Not by a lot. It is a bit more heavy duty. Again not by a lot. But you can tell. I am going to say it was about $1500 difference. They were both XLT. The packages were different. I liked the F250 package slightly better but it was not significant. Overall all I am happy with the F350. Which was my first choice when all this started It is a real truck for sure. I loved my Tundra. I put the tundra way over an F150. But the Super duty is heads and shoulders above the 1/2 tons if you need one. Most pickup owners don't.

I'd like an F250, and length wise I can get it in the garage easily, but we have a second screen drop down door to allow me to have to main door up and keep bugs n critter out. Not sure it would fit under that.
But, it's interesting that the money between a Ford Ranger, F150 and Some F250's isn't that big a change.

My 2014 Tundra is still going strong and I really don’t need anything new. It’s funny that it’s a Limited and is fairly barebones by today’s standard. Leather with heated seats, and dual zone climate. 130K and still going strong. I don’t need a Super Duty at all. I was just really intrigued by the XL Offroad package and how it’s essentially the same price as an F150 if I were to option one exactly the same. Yet you have a smaller truck, less motor, and less towing capability. Only gripe about my Tundra is does not have a true limited differential. Gas mileage is abysmal but it’s a truck so not really worried about it. These Tundras are just such good trucks that last forever it will likely be a long time before I get rid of it. It’s just fun to look at other options some times.
It will be interesting to see what these loosening of the EPA regulations will do to the truck market.
The Hilux Champ is being chatted up and is pretty cool for what it is but too small for my needs. Now if they could get us a Land Cruiser 79 Series the Tundra would be sold instantly! But that’s is truly just dreaming.

I really need to stop looking into these things. I was looking at the Carli suspensions and it looks like I would have to do a 3" lift for their Pathfinder Series shocks.
Found that Falcon has their Tow/Haul Sport System for the F350 and it requires no lift. I have no desire for a lift on the Super Duty. It's plenty high enough for my off-road uses. I have the Falcon system on my Tundra and it is outstanding in ride quality and over all component quality. Man, I really need to stop looking at this stuff. Parked next to a Super Duty the other night in the color I would get and I really liked it. Build out of everything I want getting the F350 was right at $58,000 on the website. I bet I could get it under $58,000 out the door when I actually speak with a dealership. Then $1900 for the shocks and a couple hours of my time to install them. Man, I really need to quit looking at this stuff or I am going to end up with a new truck!
