I’m tired of having to drag out a stone to sharpen my kitchen knives, I recall there being a knife sharpener device that several guys here raved about. Was it something by Ken Onion? I seem to recall that name.

I’d love to get some more info on that! Thanks

The Work Sharp belt machine maybe?

There is a Ken Onion model, I have a standard version myself and it definitely works. Still prefer a stone but the machine is tough to beat when you need a quick resharp.

I have one and it is outstanding. Read and follow the directions, be patient and don't go too coarse on the belts and it will put a razors edge on a good knife.

I have one of the Work Sharp belt machines. It works great to shape an edge. But I finish on progressively finer stones manually. I use water on them. And I finish with a smoothe steel.

I have a knife problem. I own the non ken onion work sharp, Apex Pro, and Wicked Edge.

They all work well. The work sharp will put a convex edge on everything. No big deal I like convex edges especially for outdoorsy type knife. Woodcraft, camping, etc. On my pocket knives I prefer a straight bevel. The work sharp is incapable of this.

My favorite is the wicked edge. It’s easy and nearly foolproof.

If you get the work sharp practice on cheap knives first. You can remove a lot of metal and probably mess up your temper if you aren’t careful. Works well though once you “get” it. The zen onion version is worth the extra $$$.

I recommend getting the ken onion work sharp with the Blade Grinder Attachment.

You set the angle then hold the knife level.

Pedropcola, I learned the way to get as flat an edge as possible is to let the belt do all the work and to use light pressure. And as you go to lower grits, to lighten up even more.

Hamden106, I have belts that range for 200 micron for repairs I bought on Amazon, then 125, 60, 25, 9, and 3 microns from Micro-Mesh. I finish with the work sharp strops sprayed with .5 and .25 diamond spray.

Finally, with a leather strop I made myself from horse leather.

But I only go through all that if I have nothing better to do.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." This is by far the best system I ever saw!
They solicited me to be a dealer, I hesitated because of the selling price. Everyone wants one, onlt=y a very few would belly up to the bar.
