A small part of the reason I have not purchased a 2 stage
snow blower is that they seem to leave a quarter inch of snow
on the paved driveway.

Whereas my single stage blower gets that last
quarter inch.

What if, they put rubber blades on the existing two
stage auger,

And put retractable shoes on the
scooper, with a pull of the lever,
The shoes would retract
And the rubber blades would get that
last 1/4 inch of snow on the pavement.


Or at least offer it as a $60.00 option.

Sounds like you need to adjust your blower's shoes or scraper blade. I have two 2-stage machines and they both clear down to bare pavement.

Mine is just a single stage.


Seven neighbors and half of them blow the snow off and then shovel the
Skin off then a few of them use a leaf blower to finish it off.

I don’t worry about any small layer left, that’s where the debris is anyway. Of course even more on a gravel driveway.

I can always scrape pavement with a shovel if I want it exposed to the sun.

My 2-stage scrapes right down to the pavement. In tough cases (tire tracks prior to blowing), I pull up on the handles a bit to exert more pressure between the blower and the ground.

If the driveway surface is without bumps or dips, the scraper bar can be adjusted down a lot closer. Mine is set at 1/8". Using different shoes on the blower can greatly assist in it managing the bumps and dips.

Mine doesn't leave much if any snow on the surface. The type of snow will affect how clean the surface gets.

Get an HDPE scraper bar and set it flush to the ground.

I gave this 32” two stage snowblower to my SIL when I retired to Florida ten years ago. I smile every time my daughter sends me one of these.

There are you toob videos of adding rubber flaps to the 2nd stage to help throw light snowfall.

Doing that and setting the scrapper blade low gets just about all of the snow up.

My two stage goes down to the pavement.

I have an Ariens 24” Deluxe and have the scraper blade adjusted exactly the same as in the video, using paint-stirrer sticks as spacers, which does NOT result in scraping clean to the surface of the driveway.

You must have your skids set higher.
