Observations of a gun guy about other gun guys
"An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have back up his acts with his life." Robert A. Heinlein

Over the past few weeks I've made some observations. For example, I'm trying to merge into traffic. Bonehead after bonehead acts as though letting me in will end life as we know it. A silver Chevy Silverado honks to let me know "come on in!" I wave, he waves. He pulls up past me down the road, he's sporting H&K and Glock sitckers on the back of his truck. I think to myself, thanks gun guy.

I'm standing in line at the local grocery store, and look over at the next line, a young man open carrying his Taurus pistol, lets a frustrated mother with her three children jump in front of him to expedite their grocery trip. I think to myself, well done gun guy.

Walking in the parking lot of a Sam's Club a woman pushing her overloaded cart spills half her contents in the parking lot. Before I could go cross over to assist I see two men stop to help gather her items and escort her to her van. One guy had on a Beretta hat and the other fellow had a camo Remington hat. I thought to myself, class act gun guys.

Now one may say, these were all just acts of kindness committed by descent people helping others in need. I however see a common theme.

So to my fellow gun guys, I say thank you and keep fighting the good fight.

I believe that is a quote from "Beyond This Horizon": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beyond_This_Horizon.

I agree with you--by and large those who are strongly associated with guns tend to be good people who like to be helpful.

I love seeing polite people in public. I agree that "gun guys" are the nicest. I'm always running into good people at the local range, who are always willing to hold open doors, help out with targets, etc. Good observation.

I'm polite to other road users, working on the principal that if the other guy is in THAT much of a hurry to butt in, he'll get to the crash sooner than I will.

Here we don't do gun/shooting stickers, but I've noticed over the years that drivers with BASC window stickers [British Association of shooting and conservation] tend to be other road-user friendly, but that might be because we live out in the countryside, where almost every other vehicle has that sticker, front, rear or side.

I've noticed around here that in general you're right, but once in a while someone that's a firearm owner from the stickers really does some aggressive nasty driving.

I like to hope it's his in-laws borrowing the truck.

Conservative people understand the responsibility of a polite society and how best to use their freedom.

In Tucson I saw someone wearing a Glock cap at a food place. Said hello, next thing he was inviting me to his range where they have ALL kinds of competitions and fun.

The brotherhood of the damned? Wink

I think it has to do with commonality between a certain set of values and being raised to like guns.

agreed.

I tend to be a less advertising is more type. No gun stickers on my vehicle, no gun related apparel or hats.

The most that any spot on me is a pocket clip from a knife.

And that's how I like it.
