Third hip replacement.... Login/Join

In 2005 I had my right hip done, less than a year later, the left hip replaced. About the 4th year the 1st started squeeking going up stairs. Went to see my Doc and was told it was a bad one and had been recalled. The 2nd one has been perfect.

My next step was a trip to a lawyer who told me that to prove it, I would have to have it replaced. Well, at the time it didn't bother me at all, only embarrassing, so surgery was a no go for me. Fast forward 20 some years. Friday, I got out of my work van and it started hurting. Completed my day with it getting progressively worse. Every day since it has got progressively worse! Mad

Called my surgeon's today, he is going to schedule X-rays and once seeing them, schedule surgery. My question to lawyers on this forum is this. Is it too late to sue the manufacturer (Stryker) for the faulty manufacturing of the implant (pain and suffering, missed work and such)?

20 years is a pretty good lifetime for a joint replacement. I think 25 is about the average.

Not sure how old or active you are, but it likely has just worn out vs. anything faulty with the hardware or the surgeon.

That is what I fear, not following my lawyer's advice and squeaking for 20 years for nothing, when the other one has never peeped.

I'll be 65 in May, I am a plumber/heating contractor.

There are lawsuits already, there was a settlement, you may be entitled to compensation...

Stryker Hip Replacement Lawsuits

As of August 2019, there were nearly 2,000 Stryker hip replacement lawsuits in state and federal courts. Stryker agreed to a confidential settlement of lawsuits over its LFIT V40 Femoral Head in 2018. The company paid $2 billion in 2014 to settle Rejuvenate and ABG II hip lawsuits. Now, attorneys are investigating complications related to the company’s Tritanium Acetabular Shells.

HRK-- Thank you!! I'll check into it. Luckily, I have witness's over 20 years. The doctor, my lawyer, and all those customers that said "what was that"

Stupidly, I just wasn't ready to go under the knife to do it, just too much risk!

I don't think your actions were questionable at all. I would have also avoided more surgeries as long as possible. Sorry you're having to deal with it now.

After surgery, will you still be an active contractor, and how long will it be to get rehabbed? I suspect it will be a lot shorter than before, but the orthopedist has that overview. It's not a new joint, it's replacing the old outdated tech.

One estimate given a few years back that was a floor value for getting a lawyers attention was judgements over 10k in awards, it's likely inflated a lot lately. A track record of daily employment with little loss of mobility isn't going to support it.

First one I was told 3 months, but i went gung ho on my rehab and went back to light duty in 2 weeks. I incorporated my rehab directions into my work.

Got an emergency appointment Tuesday to see him. I'm quite sure I have the Tritanium Acetabular Shell because as it was described to me, it was mostly titanium with ceramic where they meet.

Done less than a year apart and one is perfect the other.....Shit.

My condolences on the bum hip replacement. I had a "Total Hip Replacement" almost eight years ago now. Most days I don't even remember it's not real.

Warhorse, same here, both mine were like my own until the one started to squeak. My left is still like it was never done. Hopefully after this one, I'll go to the grave happy!!

Stryker has deep pockets meaning they could a) fight you till your broke or b0 pay you off to shut you up.
Coin toss.
Good luck Mark, wishing you a positive outcome.
