ATF Seize Huge Larry Vickers Gun Collection

by MAX SLOWIK on OCTOBER 13, 2021

According to recently published documents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, or ATF, the agency recently confiscated literally truckloads of firearms from the collection of gun industry legend and cornerstone Larry Vickers (.pdf).

Many of the guns are irreplaceable historical firearms that Vickers personally documented for his collector’s guides. While many of the guns appear to be NFA-regulated, the list includes many that may not be which raises questions about what’s going on.

Multiple sources are saying that this is the result of Vickers letting his Special Occupational Tax payment lapse, which would explain why the ATF confiscated the NFA-regulated guns.

However, among the many, many machineguns, there are a few rifles and receivers, which may or may not be NFA-regulated, which raises additional questions. So far, Vickers has not given a statement about the seizures.

Vickers has been quietly fighting cancer and recently transferred and sold a portion of his gun collection. Many of the guns the ATF confiscated are valued at $1,000, which doesn’t reflect their true value.

Some of the guns on the list are essentially priceless museum pieces, historically relevant and impossible to replace. The raid happened in Huntersville, North Carolina, with the notification posted last week.

A U.S. Army veteran and experienced Delta Force member, Vickers later turned teacher and historian, training shooters of all experience levels and documenting famous and infamous arms alike. Vickers fought in Operation Desert Storm, participating in Operation Acid Gambit, earning a Bronze Star with V for Valor.

He would go on to work with Heckler & Koch to help with the development of the HK416 and HK45. His series of reference books are collectively called the “Vickers Guide.”

It’s not clear if Vickers is challenging these seizures or if he’s resigned to let them go. Vickers has yet to make a statement on the issue. We’ll keep you posted as more news develops.

Terrible news, Q! I hope Larry wins his cancer battle, and his firearms are not destroyed by the ATF.

Only 58 years old too. I hope he has trusted friends or family to help sort this out. The cancer just went public in 2021.

At the very least, many could go towards a museum or $$ for his expenses. Wishing him well.

Interesting seizure list provided by the ATF. Also includes lists of recent seizures in other ATF cases, besides just the Vickers stuff. https://www.forfeiture.gov/pdf...cialNotification.pdf

Vickers' guns are about 1/3 of the way through it, with another small batch about halfway through it. Whoever catalogued the Vickers guns did a shit job, though. The majority are simply listed as "Unknown Machinegun" or "Unknown Rifle" in place of manufacturer and model.

(In browsing the other guns from non-Vickers cases, I kinda wanna know the story behind the guy in Illinois with 50 Taurus Judge revolvers... Big Grin)

There's got to be something more than not paying a $1000 (based on what I could find) Special Occupational Tax.

Well, Google just raised more questions than answers.

Roger Krahl owns RGuns in Carpenterville, IL. https://rguns.net/

However, it appears that back in 1997, he pled guilty to the felony charge of Impersonating a Police Officer and lost his FFL at that time:

GUN DEALER GUILTY OF IMPERSONATING COPS

CARPENTERSVILLE

A gun dealer who owns R Guns, 140 N. Western Ave., Carpentersville, pleaded guilty in Kane County Circuit Court this week to impersonating a police officer, said Jerry Singer, a spokesman for the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

The charge is a felony and the gun dealer, Roger Lee Krahl, will lose his federal firearms license, said Singer.

Judge James Doyle sentenced him to 18 months' probation, said Singer.

Singer said Krahl, 33, of Algonquin, used letterheads from more than a dozen police departments to make it seem he was a police officer when he placed orders for assault weapons from manufacturers.

Krahl used the letterheads to buy more than 100 assault weapons and accessories.

But sometime between 1997 and the 2010s, he must have gotten the felony expunged/pardoned, and regained his FFL, because as of the early 2010s he was again the owner/operator of RGuns. And he's now also on the Board of Directors for the FFL-IL organization, a lobbying group who represents FFL holders in Illinois.

Then in September 2021, the ATF apparently seized these Taurus Judges from him.

But no mentioned I could find of the 2021 seizure, other than the ATF's inventory list. And still no explanation for why these 50ish Taruses (Taurii?) were the only guns seized from him (or his shop).

Probably the result of having 50, secret Taurus fully auto Judges, know by code name "Here Cum Da Judge" located in the Taurus Tacticalcool catalogue lineup.
You would need your "special operator" license number to view this section.

Vickers has a new video up on YouTube- “Colt M4A1 Carbine”. Larry has lost a lot of weight but glad to see him back at it.
